Kazoo CD Quality - kolakidd - 03-15-2019

Hi,

I'm quite happy to be pulled over the coals for posting this, because I swear I saw it answered somewhere, but after several searches I cannot find it.

My Tidal account is logged in on Moode with correct user and pwd, also set to FLAC Lossless. However, in Linn Kazoo I only see the CD Quality Icon, and when I check the stream, it is indeed 44khz.

How do I get everything to play nice (and lossless), what are the settings I am missing here.

Any help appreciated!

Also getting the same thing in my iOS Lumin app, streaming at CD quality.

Checked that Tidal account is also still a Tidal HIFI account.

With Tidal HiFi you get streaming in CD quality (16 bit / 44 Khz) + MQA for the so called "Masters Album".

Flac "lossless" simply means "not lossy" which is indeed what you are getting: compressed files (in FLAC format, you can think of "flac" as the "zip" of audio files) which are not lossy, so that when you "uncompress" them you recover exactly the original file, typically a 16/44 "CD quality" file.

Ah, I should have read the fine print.

So what is confusing is they have as streaming options, normal, high, hi-fi, masters. I had assumed normal = 320kbps, high = cd, hifi = 24-bit/96kHz, and masters = MQA

When in fact it is normal = 96kbps, high = 320kbps, hifi = 44.1khz/16-bit, and masters = MQA 24-bit/96kHz

I would not be so sure about << masters = MQA 24-bit/96kHz >> Try to run a search on the debate concerning the debate concerning the 'miracle' MQA...
