+2 for recognizing the transformer for what it is and not just thinking "huh, a toy train accessory"!

Nice build Drone7, you are feeding an USB dac, right? May I ask if the rest of your system is revealing or high-end?
I'll try mine on a digital set (Allo Digione) so maybe nothing audible...

RE: linear power...stunned! - DRONE7 - 08-27-2019

Yes a USB dac.... the stock unit integral with the Perreaux Audiant 80i  which is why I was so surprised at the improvements.
Once I have the second unit built I will use that to power the Kali/Piano combo and test.

Rest of system downstream using either Plinius or aforementioned Perreaux and  homebuilt 2way bookshelf speakers or Shahinian Arcs and a highly modified Monitor Audio Silver W12 sub

Hi Bob, i read with interest your thread, what type of kit did you bought for RP?

Thanks, cheers..

Hi Marco, I bought boards only and sourced the parts from Mouser using the BOM from Salas.
Not certain but I think the mini-kit has board and some components that are easily posted...you have to source the rest...heatsinks etc.
Full kit may have all components ? but check the details at the DIYAudio site...

I want to add my 2 cents to this discussion. I am using the Allo Shanti Dual LPS to power my RPI3b+ and the Katana DAC board. My Katana stack is modified so I have no USB power inputs are being used . This improves the SQ, trust me. I have a DIY 5 volt Linear Technologies LT3042 with a Toroidal Transformer powering the Micro Controller board. For the SQ output board, heavily modified, I use a Acopian +/-15 Volt Military LPS.

Would the juice be worth the squeeze for a Pi3 with a HiFiBerry Dac+?

Which PSU are you refering to, the one described by the OP (@DRONE7) or the one 'dropped in' by @Lizard_King...?

This one.

I went ahead and ordered a full kit and a spare board. Smile
