How many tracks on 5TB of storage? moOde is not designed for collections that contain 100's of thousands of tracks.

Hi Tim,

Note and thanks ... quite a lot of track of both DSD and Flac files in this fully filled 5TB drive.

It work now with external power but sounded worse and I am back to 2TB drive which works fine and sounds great.

Really like Moode but also really do not like how thumb nails are missed every so often for whatever reason which other e.g. UAPP hardly missed any for the same attached drives ... hope next release will sort it out but more for completeness since I go via folder view anyway.

Thanks again !

Richard

Hi! I am new here and new at this RPi-Stuff. First, thanks for the great pice of software!!
I will donate soon :-)

I got the Allo USBridge Signature with the Shanti PSU and the last moode release 6.4.2.
My amp is the DENON PMA-60 and connected via USB A-B cable.

Spotify Connect is working very good!!
But i got no sound with the radiostations, sound-files from nas or local sd card.
I don't know why. Does somebody has any idea??

I'm thinking to add a powered HDD (desktop style backup drive with external power) directly to Allo... I hope this will improve quality over the network upnp route.. any comments please...

I have only compared 16/44 and 24/192 files from NAS (Synology DS214play with 2x 4 TB WD RED) vs 16/44 and 24/192 from USB stick.
DS is connected to my Fritzbox router via 1m Cat5, from Fritzbox via approx 10m CAT5 to groundfloor listening room to Allo USBridge Sign.
Booth devices, (DS NAS and Router) have standard switch mode power supply.
If there is a difference in sound, it is small, but in favor of the USB stick. Have not tested to load a music file on the SD card yet.

The sonic differences of different USB cables from the Allo to the Chord Mojo DAC is much much more obvious.

Even the Allo USBridge should have a "clean" USB-out, this can be improved with my Intona Industrial USB Isolator.
I have been a bit disappointed in this regards, as I hoped I could eliminate the Intona USB Isolator.
The USB-out signal from the Allo is not a lot "cleaner" as the USB-out of my MacBookPro running from internal battery and Sys-optimized from Audirvana 3.5.x.
Do not want to start a cable discussion here, but to my ears and with my gear the USB cables matters a lot.
I'm using JCat Signature USB cables. 1m A-B from Allo to Intona and 0,5m A-MicoB from Intona to DAC.
Before I had tried and owned a few of the known, like  Audioquest, Wireworld, MoonAudio, Supra, etc.
Only the Intona and JCAT sounded "right" to my ears, all other USB cables have some kind of "sound" signature.
Just my 2 Cents -Smile

PS: My definition of "sound signature":
Every cable (... and component) deducts (takes away) or adds (distortion) something to the "original" signal.
The more this happens, the more our brain has to work hard to eliminate (distortion) or substantiate (missing information) it for our "listening" session.
When my wife comes into my listening room and wakes me up and asks me: "how can you sleep with this loud music"
- well, then I know the cable (component) is okay, since my brain did not have to work very hard - it was quite relaxed .... -Wink

RE: Allo USBridge Signature - sjt1970 - 04-30-2020

Does anyone know if the latest moode (651) has a kernel that contains fixes for the occasional clicks and pops during playback? I have a Chord Qutest and an Allo USBridge Sig and with moode 642 there was the occasional click, even with cpu set to "performance". I then tried moode 531 from the allo site and this has no clicks or pops, so this is what I am currently using. Thanks in advance

RE: Allo USBridge Signature - Tim Curtis - 04-30-2020

moOde 6.5.1 includes kernel 4.19.115 and the latest v2.0.0 of the Allo enhanced ASIX USB/Ethernet driver.

Can you provide a link that discusses "kernel that contains fixes for the occasional clicks and pops". I'll be happy to look into it.

Thanks. I must have not been clear enough because it is well known around here. Its this post - http://moodeaudio.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=1704&pid=13994#pid13994 and this one http://moodeaudio.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=1704&pid=14168#pid14168 and this one https://audiophilestyle.com/forums/topic/57258-allo-usbridge-signature/page/13/?tab=comments#comment-1000454

RE: Allo USBridge Signature - Tim Curtis - 04-30-2020

I was referring to a link to an issue in the Raspberry Pi Linux repo that discusses 4.19.y kernel and audio glitches with particular USB DAC's. https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/issues

I do remember the Forum posts from your links and the symptoms described, at least to me, suggested an issue with the USB Audio driver in 4.19.y given that reverting to the 4.14 kernel branch apparently eliminated the glitches but I'm just guessing. I don't explicitly track very many kernel issues due to time constraints and so I don't know whether 4.19.115 kernel used in moOde 6.5.1 has fixes for the USB Audio glitches.

Give 6.5.1 a try and report back your findings :-)

Will do. On 651 for about 10 mins and so far so good! Thanks - I like the new look for the player.

Hopefully the positive results will continue but if not maybe we can construct a generic repro that can be submitted to Pi Linux repo.

After 1 day of listening on 651, still good.
