Album Art Lookup
#1
Qualifier....I'm using Ubuntu Linux Desktop..Ymmv

For CD ripping I use an external Cd drive and a Thin-client running Daphile.
Daphile uses both Gracenote and Accurate Rip.... Album art is found in most cases and I rip to an attached USB drive then transfer to MoOde Player using sftp. Smile

Occasionally album art is not found... the rip proceeds but no cover.jpg... and I have to go looking. You know how tedious that is.. Wink

So, recently I have been trialing SACAD for those manual look-ups and I am mightily impressed !

https://github.com/desbma/sacad

It is cross platform..with Windows Binaries..(though I have no Windows so have not tried those Sad   and before anyone comments..Yes! my house is dark !)

Took a bit of searching for usage and these links may help...
https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,105360.0.html
https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?t=45368

The 2nd one worked for me...

Now searching using...example..

Code:
$ sacad "Toy Dolls" "Nellie the elephant " 1000 cover.jpg -t 70 -d

and getting results... Wink

I wonder if ..... this could be used to fetch art, when it is missing, and display in MoOde ??

Something like....file plays but no cover image found....Artist and Title Tags present...send Artist and Title to sacad..lookup on the fly...(it's quick) and insert for currently playing file...??
Anyone want to try that ?

and ..."Install jpegoptim and optipng if you want to crunch the images." In Ubuntu is a breeze...

oh..and Nellie.... Smile

Entertainment aside (but, hey, this is all entertainment, right?), SACAD is a nice bit of kit. Thanks for the pointer.

Unfortunately, with classical music it's a bit of a nonstarter, since "artist" and "album" are rarely the primary keys. At least for my collection, SACAD is pulling down random bits of artwork which are often related to the composition at hand but almost never to the specific release, e.g., orchestra, conductor, etc. That's not unexpected but I keep hoping for a magic solution which doesn't require me to curate the results.

Fortunately, SACAD is written in Python. To paraphrase Lex in the movie Jurassic Park, "It's a Python system. I know this." (Ok, so she said "Unix".) Hmmm.

Kent

Hi Kent, I have had success by including composer and artist or conductor  in the first search field and the title in the second. Then specifying a huge image size (cause quality tunes spawn quality art ?? Smile..) and having a 70% variable for the hit...

Example...

Code:
sacad "Respighi Toscanini" "Pines & Fountains of Rome " 2000 cover.jpg -t 70 -d
Code:
sacad "Respighi Reiner" "Pines & Fountains of Rome " 2000 cover.jpg -t 70 -d

and serendipity...
Code:
sacad "" "Pines & Fountains of Rome " 2000 cover.jpg -t 70 -d

What would be most helpful would be if sacad did not select the 'best' option but just downloaded all relevant hits for a choosing... Wink

EDIT... seems the maintainer is a classical buff and after some perusal of the github site I find even better search options..
example..

Code:
sacad -d -t 100 "Chicago Symphony Orchestra" "Mussorgsky: Pictures at an exhibition" 2000 cover.jpg -a co.uk

note the colon separator for composer and title and the co.uk for preferred lookup...
cheers,
Bob.

@DRONE7

Thanks for that.

It resembles the way I search discogs for cover art. I just didn't try hard enough with SACAD. I guess I should be humming The Sex Pistols "I'm a Lazy S*d". Tongue

Kent
