Idea: remove chromium browser
#1
Hi,

moode is pretty nice and a great job! One thing might be to consider for baking the next image:

chromium-browser seems to be in the standard image for moode and I dont think its needed?

# apt remove chromium-browser
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra libauthen-sasl-perl libdata-dump-perl libencode-locale-perl libfile-basedir-perl
  libfile-desktopentry-perl libfile-listing-perl libfile-mimeinfo-perl libfont-afm-perl libhtml-form-perl libhtml-format-perl
  libhtml-parser-perl libhtml-tagset-perl libhtml-tree-perl libhttp-cookies-perl libhttp-daemon-perl libhttp-date-perl
  libhttp-message-perl libhttp-negotiate-perl libio-html-perl libio-socket-ssl-perl libio-stringy-perl libipc-system-simple-perl
  liblwp-mediatypes-perl liblwp-protocol-https-perl libmailtools-perl libnet-dbus-perl libnet-http-perl libnet-smtp-ssl-perl
  libnet-ssleay-perl libtie-ixhash-perl libtimedate-perl libtry-tiny-perl liburi-perl libwww-perl libwww-robotrules-perl
  libx11-protocol-perl libxcb-image0 libxcb-util0 libxml-parser-perl libxml-twig-perl libxml-xpathengine-perl perl-openssl-defaults
  xdg-utils
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  chromium-browser chromium-browser-l10n
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 83 not upgraded.
After this operation, 332 MB disk space will be freed.

So many, packages can be uninstalled, whcih might even make it easier in the future to update?

brgds,
Max

Chromium browser is needed for the local display feature for example a Pi 7" Touchscreen or a display attached via the HDMI port.

Hi all,

I'm new here. Just installed Moode, configured it and absolutely love it.
I'm doing the first packages upgrade via ssh and noticed the same. I used it headless via WebUI, so no need for Chromium Browser. Need to check other stuff, but even X windows and lots of other packages can be uninstalled.
Does anyone has a list of packages which can be safely uninstalled if Moode is used via WebUI only?
I have 32GB SD card, so space is not an issue, but uninstalling will probably help for updates and security.

Thanks.

lol, modified moOde images are not supported in this Forum, at least by the dev's. The stock image works fine and all this hacking is just silly IMO. But feel free to prove otherwise.

Hi Tim,

I really appreciate what you do in developing Moode. It's great.
However I don't think that uninstalling a few packages is 'hacking' Wink

OK, never mind.

Keep rocking!
