Along similar thoughts: what exactly is the difference between setting MPD volume control to Hardware versus Disabled?
Seems like both settings output 100% volume or am I wrong?

You can adjust hardware volume control from within moode, disabled is set at 100%.

Here is from the ( i ) help text on MPD Config

- Disabled (0dB output): Assumes external analog or digital volume controller is used.
- Hardware: Use audio device on-board volume controller.
- Software: Use MPD volume controller (32 bit float with dither).
The "Disabled" setting will result in 100% (0dB) volume output
Enjoy the Music!
