local UI gone after changing host/player name - Wallyboy - 01-17-2024

I have had this happen twice, it is repeatable.
 I set up a fresh install using the raspberry pi imager and left the default username as "pi".  When Moode is up and running, everything seems ok.  I have a 7 inch touchscreen locally that is working fine until I change the host/player name in the web UI to something else (the web UI does not like the two character name).  After I do this, the UI is no longer displayed on the touchscreen, it simply displays the console text. The web UI still works fine.  Anyone else seen this?  Is there a fix?

Thanks, Kent

After changing the host name are you still able to ssh into the box ?
If so, you should be able to reboot it and that may resolve the issue.

Note, that with the latest version you can set the host name in the advanced settings in the Pi Imager.
That would remove the requirement to change the name in the moode gui.

Whats the new host name?

I have tried it with two different host names "moode" and "lefley" (my last name).  I can still ssh and the web UI is fine.

Reboot and then post the contents of the startup log.

The log can be viewed via the SSH command moodeutl -l or downloaded via the Logs section in System Config, or via Menu, System info from the any of the Config screens. The startup log will be at the end of System info output.

RE: local UI gone after changing host/player name - Tim Curtis - 01-18-2024

I don't see anything suspicious in the log.

Maybe someone can repro your issue?

RE: local UI gone after changing host/player name - TheOldPresbyope - 01-18-2024

Log may not look suspicious but I just repro'd the OP's problem.

- flashed a fresh moOde 8.3.7 with no preconfigured hostname in Pi Imager
- booted on an RPi3+ with official 7" LCD display
- enabled local display
-> local display working

- changed host name from "moode" to "home" in WebUI.
- rebooted
-> local display not working; still in terminal mode

No chromium-browser process is running.

Haven't had time to noodle through this one.

ETA - ahh, checked syslog. The game's afoot.

RE: local UI gone after changing host/player name - TheOldPresbyope - 01-18-2024

I found a nine-year old reference to the same problem on a Ubuntu forum!

If you examine the ~/.config/chromium directory you'll see a set of "Singleton" links

Code:
lrwxrwxrwx  1 pi pi    20 Jan 17 21:57 SingletonCookie -> 18100444628333534977
lrwxrwxrwx  1 pi pi    11 Jan 17 21:57 SingletonLock -> moode-19804
lrwxrwxrwx  1 pi pi    50 Jan 17 21:57 SingletonSocket -> /tmp/.org.chromium.Chromium.IYiZFF/SingletonSocket

Turn off the local display using the WebUI then delete these links. You can do this by executing the following three command from an ssh session (I did it in three steps to minimize risk if you mistype the rm command.)

Code:
cd ~/.config/chromium
rm -rf Singleton*
cd

Then reboot moOde for luck and reenable the local display from the WebUI.

This worked for me. Hope it works for you.

I guess the easy way to avoid this problem is to turn off the local display before changing host name.

Regards,
Kent

I see both network cards active and router mode off... I do not think this would affect the local UI, but better not do it anyway.
