RE: Argon one case - DRONE7 - 08-29-2020 Yes..I see your dilemma...the argon case does not lend itself to your useage well....although the other cases have drawbacks in their thermal control. Reading the feedback on both your amazon links I see that the HiFi Berry case has several problems including the distance from connectors to the RPi board and intermittent operation. The other case looks spacious but if you measure and read the reviews you will find it is cramped and not well cooled. Both cases seem more suited to your use being as near to and above a CD at your listening point and interfacing with your displays. The Argon case is a cooling solution for the Pi4B as its whole aluminium cover is the heatsink. It works best as a USB attached DAC device and not as well for HATs. Perhaps the Argon Neo would bridge the gap ? https://www.amazon.com/Argon-Raspberry-Heatsink-Supports-Accessible/dp/B07WMG27T7 or perhaps this used vertically ? https://www.amazon.com/Geekworm-Raspberry-Ultra-Thin-Aluminum-Compatible/dp/B07X5Y81C6/ref=sr_1_19?dchild=1&keywords=raspberry+pi+hat+case&qid=1598686872&sr=8-19 RE: Argon one case - Lusayalumino - 08-29-2020 Thanks Bob, for all your wisdom on those cases -- and I came to realize that the Anidees doesn't have any cutouts in the aluminum frame for the HiFi Berry HAT. :o( I don't know how I missed that Geekworm DRONE7... really great case. That NEO is a fantastic case as well -- but after using the Smart Power Button on the Argon One (I don't believe any other case has that??) -- I'm in love. Between the power button and your comments about the tremendous thermal qualities of this case... I decided to keep the Argon One ... I had some little rubber furniture wedges laying around that worked perfectly (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EN6HUHW) -- to go between the rear-top of the case, and the bottom of the HiFi Berry DAC HAT. I used the Argon / Moode script on this forum (http://moodeaudio.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=2227) and it worked flawlessly for the Smart Power Button (although I can't verify the fan is working properly since it hasn't gotten hot enough to kick on). I push the Smart Power Button on the Argon One, and voila! ... the R Pi with HiFi Berry boot > and a few seconds later the sleeping touchscreen kicks on > then the Active Speakers kick on > then the Subwoofer kicks on - "One Button to Rule Them All"! And now with Smart Power down, one button and everything shuts down / goes back to sleep -- lovin' it. Thanks again for all your help... and for all the great contributors on this forum that make all these things so much easier. I posted the best resolution settings I found with Moode and a 12" screen here, for anyone it may help: http://moodeaudio.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=2921 Warmest regards, Lusay RE: Argon one case - Lusayalumino - 08-29-2020 (08-28-2020, 05:12 AM)Lusayalumino Wrote: Thanks so much for posting this; I just ordered the case and expect it to be delivered tomorrow -- so I'm looking forward to trying this. The code worked perfectly on my new Argon One; thanks for posting this! RE: Argon one case - TheOldPresbyope - 08-29-2020 @Lusayalumino Quote:... I don't know how warm the Argon One case gets where the wedges touch it. Be alert to the possibility that, depending on its composition, the rubber could become unstable if heated for long periods of time and make a sticky mess (don't ask me how I know!). Regards, Kent RE: Argon one case - Lusayalumino - 08-29-2020 Thanks Kent... great word to the wise -- I'll keep an eye on it. They're part cloth and part rubber so we'll see. And I think you're right, I think that part of the HiFi Berry may get real hot. I'd love to see the Argon Two with room for a DAC HAT. And... I won't ask you how I know -- but you've certainly piqued my curiosity LOL! Was it ever established if this might work please? Sounds like a good idea..... RE: Argon one case - DRONE7 - 02-06-2023 I never did follow up. Will try again and with Code: elif pulsetime >=6 and pulsetime <=10: |
