Many thanks to all for your feedbacks and suggestions.
mp3tag is a good one indeed.
Will test Easytag as well as it seems easy to handle.
I tested kid3 on Mac which seems pretty good as well.
I did some clean up, played som albums and saw that one system showed duplicate tracks in an album while the other did not...
I reinstalled moOde on the one showing duplicate tracks, and ended with 400 tracks less !
So I guess there were remnants from the numerous database regenerations I did...

but the AlloUSBSig/DigiOneSig shows
Library Tag screen: 30857 tracks, 2487 hours, 12 mins
Library Config Screen: 3267 albums processed

I've started a another full library regeneration on the Allo system...we'll see what happens
Edit: regenerated library on both the Allo and one of the RPis. Results are unchanged

I've just spent the last week cleaning up and resizing all my album covers, by hand........ in Photoshop and Mp3tag v3.0.0.
3.0.1 would certainly have saved me a few beers!

The thumbnail generator counts the number of album directories processed. MPC is counting the number of unique album tags and this count can be an undercount as explained in this thread http://moodeaudio.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=2435&pid=19311#pid19311
As far as the diff in tracks try Clearing the Library tag cache. Its a button on Library Config.

Tried that (cleared all three units).......no change.

What I don't see here is any statement about possible tracks on the SDCARD or local USB drives. MPD counts them too and not just the tracks on the common NAS.
If you were really curious you could start both systems with their MPD logs cleared, then tell each one to regenerate its library. Compare the (30+K, yikes) update lines in the two logs when done. You'd probably want to write a script to automate the comparison

In my case, there are no USB sticks, and the only file listed in Library/Sdcard (all three) is the Stereo Test file. I wondered about wired or wireless, but one of the two RPi3 (which give identical stats) is wired and the other wireless; the Allo is wired.
I think I’ll pass on the pleasure of comparing 30k lines of log files
.........we’re enjoying some fine weather on the South Coast of the UK and it’s forecast to continue for the rest of the week, so I have been directed to “pot on” some more tomato plants and walk the cat around the garden.
