Aha, I was undone by old Linux habits. Center mouse button is a shortcut for "paste". It appears to work in the built-in terminal window *except*....

lol, I have to 2-finger tap on my Air to bring up the context menu.

I use Putty as an SSH terminal as a matter of habit, didn't try the internal SSH.
