I think it was marked solved yesterday not 2 weeks ago but in any case @muddiver was just adding his + experience with Debian as NAS and sharing that it's not such a good idea to use Router as a NAS.

My mistake... I was so sure to have been seeing this thread SOLVED for longer than two days... but I am getting older and older, and patience-less, I do recognize it. :-D :-D :-D

I changed it to solved just today, after it was solved, or at least a work around found.

No problem mate.

You were probably thinking of that CamillaDSP thread Wink

Yep, that was it... Still, older I get, nevertheless... :-)

I' having the exact same problem described by the opening post
I see this thread is marked as "SOLVED", but am I right to gather that the solution was ultimately not to use this feature on the fritzbox and that thefore the problem was not really solved?
I'm adding my 2 cents: I have 2 older fritzboxes (model 3490, for years the top of AVM range and dismissed around 2020 although updatet until 2023) and for years they have worked flawlessly with older releases of MoodeAudio and Volumio.
I fail to grasp how and why they should not work with newer Moode releases, but as I understand it it is being assumed that the data transfer rate is not fast enough for Moode to scan the library
Is that even possible since there are no time requirements in terms of scanning? The library is only scanned upon setup and on demand later, what does it matter if it takes some time more as long as Moode does scan it?
This is of course not to criticize Moode or those who make it happen. I'm only grateful, but I do wonder why things aren't easier rather than more difficult than years ago. Basically, it's the whole idea of retrocompatibitly.

Having said that could please @muddiver explain what it is that he did to solve the problem?
I read you configure a share on a debian-based system running pihole, but I don't know what it means.
If you'd be willing to provide explanations I'd be most grateful. Or, before anything else: does your solution imply any hardware other than the fritzbox, the hard drive, and the Pi where you installed moode? like a second Pi, possibly running this pihole that I'm not familiar with?
If another Pi is needed, may be I'll just buy a second-hand NAS if that does the trick.
So ultimately, would a real NAS (as opposed to the NAS built-in function of the fritzbox) provided what's needed to have Moode scan the library?

Yes, as I said in your first thread using another Pi as the NAS is this option. Check out OMV as the software. (PiHole is an add blocker)

As above, another Pi as a 'real NAS' will suffice.
Fritzbox! Fritz!NAS is a rather dated and as noted here unreliable substitute for a real NAS.

thanls @DRONE7
I remember you already suggested OMV in my former post and it's not that I'm being lazy... since that query I had done some progress and got Moode to see my hd attached to the fritzbox and start the scan. So it wasn't obvious to me that it's still the same problem and I guess I assumed that if the music folder is there to see for Moode, then it should also be able to scan it.

Since I was wrong and I'd have to get more hw, do you think it's best to find a pre-owned Nas (dating back perhaps some 10-12years ago) or another Pi? If another Pi, is there a minimum requirement in terms of specs? do I need a Pi5, Pi4, or ...?

In case it's relevant, for the foreseeable future the only use I'd be making of it (whether it's a Nas or OMV) is streaming music with Moode. I can only add that a 2-bay NAS could give me raid options (which I don't really need right now, but could always come in handy)

thanks for whatever comments

If I may jump in for a moment, a commercial NAS 10-12 years old is unlikely to support up-to-date SMB protocols out-of-the-box and may not have any software updates available. I would not suggest it.

Almost any computer can be configured to provide SMB file sharing and many can be configured to provide NFS file sharing...even a second moOde player. It's possible to serve from MS Windows, Linux, and (I assume) MacOS. Consult the InterWeb™ for HowTo articles.

As it happens I am an OpenMediaVault user. At various times I've run it on a big X86 computer server.under my desk, on my laptop, and on different SBCs. At the moment, I have it running on a RPi 5 booting RaspiOS from a uSD card and serving files from an large-capacity SSD.

Besides RaspiOS, there's the very nice DietPi distro which is the Swiss Army knife for creating user-specified services on a numver of different SBCs.

Kent

PS - In my personal experience, RAID is as much a nuisance as it is a benefit. YMMV.
