RE: Update library hangs unpredictably while scanning SMB share on a Fritzbox router - skr91 - 03-04-2025 thanks @TheOldPresbyope let me get this straigth at least from a hardware standpoint as I understand it, I need another Pi (any Pi? any minimum requirements?) with OMV, which will be connected via USB to a 3.5" drive in its own enclosure and via ethernet to the router. this setup will give me a nas accessible from the local network, hence from the Pi running moode is this correct? RE: Update library hangs unpredictably while scanning SMB share on a Fritzbox router - Nutul - 03-04-2025 (03-04-2025, 08:06 PM)skr91 Wrote: thanks @TheOldPresbyope Yes. The "via ethernet to my router" thing is redundant: you just need "that" Pi in your network. With NFS or SMB file sharing enabled. In the "other" PIs just mount the shared folder from "that" Pi. As minimum requirements a Pi3 would suffice, a Pi4 could be more performant. In the end, though, I think that even a Pi3 with 2GB ram (the more, the better, I am keen to assume) would do. A 1 GB model is adequate. Be sure to use an official RPi power supply. I use M.2 NVMe SSDs on my RPi 5B via the PCIe interface but I've also used external SSD drives with USB 3.0 interfaces. I still have a couple of HDs around but use them only for backup so mostly they're powered down. Regards, Kent PS - Other SBCs and other computers in general work well too, but Raspberry Pis and RaspiOS have a huge user and support base. RE: Update library hangs unpredictably while scanning SMB share on a Fritzbox router - DRONE7 - 03-04-2025 If you want to investigate the OMV NAS then the link I posted earlier would be worth your time to read. If it only shared music around, you could plug the USB directly to a moOde player Pi and use the NFS/SMB sharing within moOde to make it visible to other devices. I haven't seen the sharing option in moode, but I'll look for it Have you actually tried this and seen whether it streams smoothly? RE: Update library hangs unpredictably while scanning SMB share on a Fritzbox router - the_bertrum - 03-05-2025 m/configure/System, scroll to File Sharing. Simplest is to turn on SMB and leave the password blank. All the music sources defined to your moOde system will be shared as SAMBA shares on your network and should be easily discoverable. Be sure to have updated the library when you attach the USB drive. Full disclosure, I haven't tried it, but people on this forum who I trust have tested it and found it works. All three file sharing options work fine. They aren’t magic, though. A user should have some understanding of how other systems access them. Consult your favorite Internet search engine to find basic tutorials. For sure, if all I wanted was to share music stored on a USB drive among two or more players on the same LAN, I’d go this route. Just be sure the player and the drive attached to it are provided adequate power. Regards, Kent RE: Update library hangs unpredictably while scanning SMB share on a Fritzbox router - skr91 - 03-05-2025 I've tried just now very quicklìy, having only one Pi and the PC available right now: Moode > usb storage attached > turned on samba > browsed the network folder from windows the Pi's folders were right there and I played from the PC a couple of tracks sourced from the usb storage attached to the Pi it worked, no issues. took 1 minute will try with another Pi can the "host" (or I should say "server"?) Pi also play music on its own while another Pi ("client" ?) sources the music from it? or can it only perform one task at the time? |
