Excellent news... excellent top-of-the-line RPi !

I suppose RPi 4 will cause a major 'disruption' in the sales of ASUS Tinker Board, Beaglebone, Odroid, etc... A price war may ensue, what's not to like...?!

RE: Rapsberry Pi 4 - Malefoda - 06-24-2019

Maybe this one can be used as a daily family computer on raspbian. RPi 3 is sluggish...
But IRL, what moOde needs to be at its 100%, a Pi Zero, a Pi 2? In other words, will you gain anything from the Pi4 for moOde?

RE: Rapsberry Pi 4 - stosoorok - 06-24-2019

The most important upgrade:

Quote:For example, Ethernet speed used to be hampered because its connection to the main SoC had to be through an on-PCB USB port. On the Pi 4, Broadcom’s BCM54213 Gigabit Ethernet PHY has appeared, connected at full bandwidth to a MAC on the BCM2711 via a dedicated RGMII interface.

For the first time on a Pi, two USB 3 connectors have appeared, attached to the main SoC via a single lane of PCI Express – so the total user port count is now two USB 2 and two USB 3.

No more shared USB/LAN.

LP ripper.... those big-ole-black-round-things... Wink   Anything and everything can rip cd.....but LP requires a bit of muscle and an ADC so the Pi4 is going to fill that hole wonderfully.

That's exactly what I'm building into my under-construction audio player. SATA DVD drive => SATA-USB interface => RPi running Moode => abcde with a custom script so when I insert a CD it will be ripped to flac, tagged and put into a "CD rips" folder. If possible, I also hope to generate a .cue file and add it to the Moode playlists.

The Pi4 should be great for this as there's more processor grunt for encoding the flac, also the gigE and USB3 will be nice for dealing with large libraries on USB storage. I might need to have a careful look at additional heatsinking though, it looks like a slight increase in maximum power over the Pi 3b+ and I've never been very convinced by those tiny penny-sized heatsinks people sell for Pis. Anyone got any suggestions for a beefier heatsink that will allow the Pi4 to avoid thermal throttling?

This works well for a 3B+....

Following with interest your cd ripper solution... will you post details once you have it running ?
