RE: Allo USBridge Signature - Manni - 03-01-2020

ok Tim, thx for your help.

what I understand now so far is:

open Terminal
type in / or copy...

> ssh pi@http://moode
>password> moodeaudio
> echo none | sudo tee /sys/class/leds/led0/trigger

and then???

... but I don't understand this :

"To have the setting persist across reboots add it to /etc/rc.local before the exit 0 statement."

Sorry, but I'm new to this topic

I'm trying to play back DSD64 files; attached the screenshot.
'stops inbetween' - means music stopping for a moment or two then continue playing - in one song i'm getting atleaset 3-4 such stops. Looks like some speed issue somewhere.
MoOde - i downloaded latest version from moodeaudio.org.
-----------------------------------
player: MoOde - latest version 6.4.2
CPU governor set to 'Performance'
Music buffer: 4096; - default minimum size (i tried increasing this to 8MB/16 and max, but issues still there) - getting less stops/breaks in this minimum 4MB buffer.
I'm yet to test with a differnt USB stick/ hard drive. - I hope connecting an external SSD would solve this issue.
Network play: USBridge Sig is connected to LAN, but the switch is a basic one which my broadband ISP provided - not sure about any limitation on LAN bandwidth.
DSD over PCM = 'Yes' (I'm getting full res DSD only via this DoP route.
my DAC: Chord 2Qute

---------------------------------------------------
Also would like to know which route is better:
1) music played from direct USB/HDD/SSD connected to Allo USBridge Signature
2) music played from a network storage, or music/file server like minimserver installed in my computer and calling files via upnp - bubble upnp is the one i'm in.
which of this method is good / advisable..

Many thanks!
Noble

I have given up with DSD some time ago, since there is no audible benefit for my "hearing" and no music (I like) available.
I did always get similar (DSD) sound signature on my Chord Mojo when I upsampled a redbook 16/44 file 24/384 with Audirvana 3+.
It sounds more "airy" and "lighter", which I did not like always and and with all songs. It did only "sound" nice with "audiophile" songs.

However, I can try to simulate your situation, but only with my Mojo dac.
Would need to download some DSD files, since I have deleted them all in the past.
Let me know, if you are still interested.

In terms of direct attached storage (USB, HDD, SSD) or network (NAS) I`m having the problem that I can access the music on my Synology DS NAS, but I have not found a method to import my "intelligent" iTunes playlists yet. And with more than 30.000 titles it is no fun to search without these playlists.

With Audirvana it is no issue to import these playlists, but with MConnect and moOde I have not found a solution yet.
Maybe someone can help ???
However, to my ears streaming from Tidal with flac is at least equal to playback from my NAS.... and searching in Tidal is faster than via my network on NAS.

If playing from a USB stick is better, I have not tried yet. But it is an additional power-load to the system.
May depend what kind of power supply you are using.
I use the shanti power supply and it seems to be quite good, however it reacts to different power cords as sensitive as all other components.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for your view, I also don't have many DSD files, only few that i downloaded.
Sound signature/quality wise, I'm finding Eagle- Hotel California DSD is much better than FLAC/WAV version - in terms of details, richness, and airy.

USB/HDD i read somewhere in an other form/thread that USB drives are preferred over SSD/HDD..
Also Network upnp is the best preffered method..
in that sense im tring to figureout the right method to do dlna... I'm using minimserver in my laptop and bubble upnp in phone... able to play all FLACs/WAVs /MP3s without any issues.. but DSD stops inbetween here too.

Hi,

Is there a limit on the maximum size of hdd due moode or the usb bridge signature ?

Reason that I am asking is that while my Seagate 2TB works fine, the 5TB one does not get detected most of the time and when it does, it regen slowly and hangs towards 2TB.

Cheers.

Richard

RE: Allo USBridge Signature - Tim Curtis - 03-03-2020

Could be a power issue. Is the drive externally powered?

How many tracks on 5TB of storage? moOde is not designed for collections that contain 100's of thousands of tracks.

I've tried DSD playback. Running Audrivana 3.5. on MacBookPro streaming to Allo USBridge running moOde via USB cable to Chord Mojo via RCA to Anthem P5 amp.
Both data streams DSD 64 and 128 did work without any interruptions or clicks/ticks. Used a free download from 2L.
Will try to playback from USB stick later today.

PS: playing from USB stick attached to Allo USBridge Sign. front does work with DSD 64 and 128. DSD256 is distroyed sound !!

However, the
Encoded at DSD128, 1 bit, 11.288 Mbps Stereo file is decoded to PCM, 32 bit, 705,6 kHu, Stereo, 45.158 Mbps
My Chord Mojo confirms with the light buble DSD

RE: Allo USBridge Signature - Manni - 03-03-2020

Playing from USB thumb drive giving cover issues - need help

Using a Sandisk 64 GB stick formated FAT32.
Having 5 different subfolders on the stick, called:
iT_last_added,
iT_M5,
iT_24_96,
iT_24_192,
iT_DSD.
Basicly some of my iTunes playlists, with: latest added, 5star ratings, 24b/96kHz Hires and 24b/192kHz Hires and some DSD files.

Added the USB stick to the Allo USBride and did start the MPD database update.
In moOde I can see now a folder USB with all the subfolders.
I can play back all the titles of the subfolders, but only in the folder: "iT_last_added" the covers are displayed at playback !!

I have updated and regenerated the Album cover thumbnail cache, but no difference ??????

Any reason for this ??

I first thought it might be the FAT32 limit of 4 GB. Only the "iT_last_added" folder had been less than 4 GB.
I deleted then in an other folder the files to come below the 4 GB size and remounted and updated the MPD Database, but still no difference!!

RE: Allo USBridge Signature - Tim Curtis - 03-03-2020

The cover thumbnail generator expects the standard Artist/Album directory structure.

There is no difference how the cover art had been attached to the titles in the different subfolders, one can see them in iTunes and on the USB stick as well, so the covers are there.
I have changed in library options the cover search priority to >cover image file<, since I understood, that in this setting the search is first in a possible separate cover art file and then it is looking for embedded covers.

Is there something wrong??

RE: Allo USBridge Signature - Tim Curtis - 03-03-2020

Whats the folder structure look like under one of the top level folders for example the iT_M5 folder?

You could also look in the Moode log for errors that might have been logged when the thumbnail generator ran. A successful run looks something like below

20200303 173135 worker: Job regenthmcache
20200303 173135 thmcache: Start
20200303 173135 thmcache: directory: NAS
20200303 173135 thmcache: directory: SDCARD
20200303 173248 thmcache: Done: 352 album dirs processed

Thanks for your comment, its great news that you're able to playback DSD... I've to troubleshoot mine.. I don't have mac, i installed minimserver in my desktop and calling files to USBridge Sig using 'bubble upnp' player on an android phone.. this is my preferred method.. I did tried with pendrive as well.

Have you noticed any quality differences between this network play VS local drive (HDD/pendrive connected to USBridge Sig). @Allo, what is the recommended setup?
I'm thinking to add a powered HDD (desktop style backup drive with external power) directly to Allo... I hope this will improve quality over the network upnp route.. any comments please...
