Distortion - kolakidd - 01-18-2020 I have this weird issue, and I can't figure out why, any insight would be useful. I have A Rpi4 > Soekris DAM1021 > Valve Pre > Power Amp setup. I have distortion if I put Moode to 100% volume in Software Mode or Disabled. Distortion does NOT go away if I turn down the volume Soekris or the Valve Pre, but it does go away if I put Moode into Software Mode and reduce volume to 90%. RE: Distortion - cryptout - 01-18-2020 Do you have EQ enabled, or are you using upsampling in moOde? This may cause added volume and might distort if you don't attenuate it by a few db's with software volume. If everything is disabled it should not distort. In Audio Config tab try setting 'Max ALSA volume' to 96 (or less...experiment) This works with the 'Disabled"setting too ![]() Quote:Establishes ALSA volume level that is used to set 0dB when MPD volume control is set to Software or Disabled RE: Distortion - kolakidd - 01-26-2020 Thanks for the feedback. I apologise for the delay in response - long irritating business trip. In terms of EQ, for some reason I had it enabled and on flat, so I just turned that off. Thanks In terms of Max Alsa volume, the Soekris is an I2S device, and I can't seem to edit the Alsa volume value at all. Any advice RE: Distortion - Tim Curtis - 01-26-2020 (01-26-2020, 07:02 AM)kolakidd Wrote: Thanks for the feedback. I apologise for the delay in response - long irritating business trip. I'd recommend starting with a fresh 6.4.1 image which is based on the latest Raspbian 10.2. 2) 20200127 075629 worker: USB source (Music) 20200127 075629 worker: USB source (Music_) 20200127 075629 worker: USB source (Music__) 20200127 075629 worker: USB source (Music___) 20200127 075629 worker: USB source (Music____) 20200127 075629 worker: USB source (Music_____) 20200127 075629 worker: USB source (Music______) 20200127 075629 worker: USB source (Music_______) 20200127 075629 worker: USB source (Music________) These ____ lines result from the USB auto-mounter unsuccessfully un-mounting the device after its removed. I'm not exactly sure how this happens. You can get rid of the orphaned mount points using the commands below. Code: 1) Verify the directory is empty RE: Distortion - kolakidd - 01-27-2020 Thanks Tim! I'll go through the full process this weekend and post results. RE: Distortion - kolakidd - 02-02-2020 So I re-installed everything, also updated the Pi firmware, which has meant I now have a silent setup again. I haven't tried this yet: Quote:Another solution may be to activate parametric EQ with no change but reduce master gain to -6dB (or test for a different value). I'm a bit reluctant to apply parametric EQ. This is my setup (minus fan now, but with bigger heat sink) 1. Separate power supplies for Dac, ArdamLite, Pi, and Hard Drive 2. Black box next to the Soekris is the Ardam Lite, which controls Soekris filters and volume. ![]() If I drop a pot in to control the ALSA volume, I could just keep it inside the box and set it to 90% in the ALSA settings. Lowering the volume on the Ardam Lite control does not reduce the distortion. |
