Thanks to this mod, I can now switch on and off my amp via a USB Infrared transmitter, made by Dangerous Prototypes. I slightly modified the mod, so it works for me the following way:
After I click play, it sends a command via irsend (comes with lirc), then when I put on pause, it waits 5 minutes and sends power off command to amp. Also, I can control the volume of the amp using a lirc android client.

Anyone know if this mod works with the current version of Moode?

And if I need to send a 12V signal to an amp to trigger it on, I should just hook up a relay that gets triggered by the GPIO and a 12V DC power supply to push 12V, correct?
