HDMI no sound Onkyo tx-nr474 - CoppolaVH - 03-08-2021
I am new to mooDe Audio and RPI after having used mooDe and like it at my friends place several times.
PROBLEM: No sound from HDMI via Onkyo tx-nr474 AVR.
BACKGROUND: I am running a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 4GB board in an Argon ONE V2 Pi 4 Case (2021). The Argon came with an adapter board that converts the mini-HDMI and power of the RPI to two full size HDMI back facing female receptors and power to the back position.
I have done a clean installed of mooDe 7.0.1, as outlined below ("moodeutl -s"), and I can open mooDe and launch radio, test music, and usb files, however I hear no sound.
I have also tested the HDMI cable as well as the Onkyo tx-nr474 STRM BOX ports with other sounds out that sounds fine from the Onkyo with the HDMI cable and through this port.
Are there any suggestions how to fix this problem, please?

Hi!
You have to disable screen blanking to have audio on HDMI. Or you can set option in config.txt:
hdmi_blanking=0
Option "wake display on play" didn't work for me.
Hardware volume on HDMI is initially at 0, which can be a reason for no audio. Hardware volume doesn't use CEC commands, so it is probably no different than software volume. I set it to none.
Default HDMI audio is 16-bit. You can switch to vc4-kms-3d driver, but I haven't been able to configure it correctly. Maybe there is a guide for it?

Thank you for trying to help. I did chage the hdmi_blanking from 1 to 0 as suggested, but still no sound via Onkyo AVR. Here is my config.txt as well sudo nano /boot/config.txt:

I also just added "config_hdmi_boost=5" to the config.txt as I read another moOde thread and that person also had this in the config.txt.

Does video work for you? Display should be enabled in system configuration. You can check with Onkyo or with direct connection to TV.

Good news, and thank you Tim and popej for responding on this post originally.
I am now problem solving the casing hardware. I now have sound working very well through the Onkyo AVR with moOde driving it via the pi with no casing on the pi and connecting with a MicroHDMI cable to the pi board directly. Additionally, we have tested with both and official and generic MicroHDMI cable and both work fine.
There seems to be an issue with the Argon ONE V2 Pi 4 Case (2021) (below URL). It may the adapter card which transforms the pi outlets into a standard two sized HDMI for back plugin, or it is the standard HDMI cable I was using, which was an Audioquest Cinnamon.
I have ordered an official standard HDMI size cable, which is not as easy to find in the local market, and have to wait two weeks for stock to arrive. I will post regarding the results of the Argon QA results once the Official Pi standard HDMI cable arrives and is tested.

Regarding your comment on vc4-kms-3d driver and default HDMI audio being 16-bit, you are correct that my 24 bit music is playing at an output rate of 16 bits, so I will dig into that next.
