24 bit Output to HDMI downsamples to 16 bit - CoppolaVH - 03-11-2021
We are looking at options for 24 bit output over HDMI.
Currently the pi downsamples to 16 bit.
We understand the Openmax (https://www.khronos.org/openmaxil) is a possible solution that can play 24 bit. Does anybody have any success in doing so with Openmax, or other solutions to output at 24 bit, please.

Was able to get the Justboom Digi Hat hooked up via optical cable, and that solved the 2 channel 24 bit out issue as outlined below:
Encoded at24 bit, 192 kHz, Stereo FLAC
Decoded to24 bit, 192 kHz, Stereo, 3.486 Mbps
DestinationLocal
Output rate24 bit, 192 kHz, Stereo, 9.216 Mbps

Same problem here with a Raspberry Pi 3b...
For me the solution proposed is not acceptable, because I have many 24/96 files with 5.1 channels, which cannot be output via SPDIF, but only via HDMI. So, any other solution?

I know what you mean, and I feel the same way, but given Moode Audio is a LINUX kernel 5.4 branch I don't think we have a way to solve this issue. I am decidedly not the technical person, but I understand later kernels may have a way to address this, but frankly I gave up as has the github link I posted gotten no solve.
