Rpi 3B+ & Allo Boss Dac, no internet connect. - raalffi - 06-18-2021

Hello, my problem is that in this hardware configuration on Moode 7.2.1 as well as the previous ones, I do not have an internet connection. I need to connect to Moode in Accesspoint mode. But if I change the audio card settings to SLAVE MODE ENABLED then the problem disappears completely. But the whore is of a little worse quality then. I would like to add that in SLAVE MODE DISABLE Moode connects to the router, gets an IP address, but no communication. Does not reply to PING.

A strange problem because it seems that the settings of the audio card should not affect the WiFi communication.

When the issue occurs plug in an Ethernet cable and then post the Moode startup log.

Ok, I did this command via SSH. It receives the IP address 192.168.1.5 on wifi and 192.168.1.27 on Ethernet, after connecting the Ethernet cable it responds to PING packets from two addresses and there is an internet connection. After disconnecting the Ethernet cable, there is no communication at both addresses.

The log shows an unusual Primary DNS address.

Normally the Primary DNS address is the same as the Router LAN address because the Router acts as a DNS proxy.. In your case I would have expected the Primary DNS address to be 192.168.1.1.

I changed my router's DNS address to 1.1.1.1 and I have had it for many months. Many computers and devices use this DNS at my home and there are no problems. Rpi also has no problem when I set the audio card to SLAVE MODE ENABLE. After that, when I set it to SLAVE MODE DISABLE, communication also disappears in the LAN, and here the DNS address is not needed. It looks like the problem is hidden somewhere deeper in the Moode system. At least in the hardware configuration with the Allo Boss Dac card working in MASTER mode.

But to be sure, I changed the DNS address to the standard one.

Unfortunately, it did not help. I still can't have my card set to MASTER mode. I checked on another system and everything works fine.
Only there is no option to select the MASTER or SLAVE audio card operating mode. And so it is not known in what mode it works on that system.

I had a Boss DAC and never had any issues with Pi WiFi either in master or slave mode. Maybe another member with a Boss can try and repro your issue.

Which version of the Boss do you have?

My Boss Dac version v 1.2

I have just connected the TP-LINK TL-WN722N external WiFi USB card

it didn't change anything, it behaves same as integrated wifi.

The strange thing is that when Moode is in accesspoint mode, the Boss Dac works in MASTER mode without any problem. However, then there is no internet radio because Rpi has no internet connection.

Ok thank you for your time. I will exchange this Boss for another card. Or I'll put a cable to Rpi. Everything works fine on Ethernet.

Unfortunately, it did not help. I still can't have my card set to MASTER mode. I checked on another system and everything works fine.
Only there is no option to select the MASTER or SLAVE audio card operating mode. And so it is not known in what mode it works on that system.

Just as in another thread wierdly, you've misunderstood how DNS works on your LAN, 1.1.1.1 is a public DNS service run by Google (as is also 8.8.8.8). It's a service for resolving names on the internet but they obviously wont be able to resolve the names on your LAN which will result in seemingly odd timeouts and issues with communication between the computers on your lan if your configure this on your computers' IP configurations.

The DNS address on your local IP configuration should normally be your router, i.e. the same as your gateway address.
The WAN DNS address is configured on your router for resolving names external to your network, i.e. the internet, that's where you'd enter your external DNS service address. Tip though... 1.1.1.1 & 8.8.8.8 might be faster than your ISP but why would you trust Google to log all your name lookups (i.e. potentially every web, email, download, torrent etc. connection)?

So when it comes to trusting DNS, I don't trust any. But with us in Poland it is also that ISPs have a legal obligation to collect data about internet traffic of their clients. And they must keep this data for about two years. Therefore, I try not to use the DNS of my ISP.

However, Google knows everything about me anyway, because when I search for something on the Internet, I use their search engine and click on links found by Google.

As for the 1.1.1.1 address, it was supposed to belong to Cloudflare, which ensured that it did not save data about the visited pages. And what is the truth, I do not know.

In addition, in my LAN network, I configure devices so that they communicate with each other using IP addresses and not Host names. All WiFi intermediaries, access points, repeaters, etc. are assigned an IP from a different pool than the primary router. They are not visible to users. They have no connection to the WAN and are "transparent". All computers, smartphones and multimedia devices are assigned addressing by the primary router.

I have a large house and two families live in it, so there are many of these devices.

As for the problem of Rpi and Moode and Allo Boss Dac V1.2 for me, a different system than Moode freezes when listening to internet radio. Turning off the I2S Dac and listening via HDMI helps.

There is some conflict of Allo Boss Dac and WiFi communication. Replacing the WiFi card with an external one does not help. So that the integrated WiFi card itself is not to blame. Perhaps I have a damaged card Allo Boss Dac, since it works fine for others.

I will solve my problem with Rpi and Allo Boss as follows:

There is such a tiny device called nano router TP-Link TL-WR702N Powered by 5V with USB consumes 0.8W power. It can act as a WIFI bridge and is therefore transparent. Connects to the Ethernet port Rpi connects to the home WiFi network and after the problem.
In Poland, it costs 10-15 Euro. Only they don't produce anymore and it's hard to buy new ones. There is also TL-WR802N but it doesn't have wifi bridge mode and it's probably not transparent. It has AP Client. I prefer transparent WiFi intermediary devices.

Troubleshooting network issues starts with the ping utility. Hosts on a network that don't respond to ping indicate asome sort of problem in the network configuration.

If the host responds to ping but does not respond to higher level protocols like network discovery (mDNS etc) it would indicate problems with those protocols being blocked in the network either explicitly or as a result of routing, network segmentation etc.
