The old grey cells aren't what they used to be. I can't recall if Squeezelite memory management was an issue with earlier releases but...
On my Pi 3A and my Zero2W running 64-bit moOde 8.1 as well as on my Pi 3A running 32-bit moOde 8.1, the Squeezelite renderer process rather quickly runs out of memory and falls prey to the oom_reaper.
On my Pi 3B+ running 64-bit moOde 8.1, top shows the squeezelite process consuming ca 30% of memory.

I can add to the TODO list to investigate but it may take a dev with expertise in Squeezelite to debug it.
