OpenMediaVault/MiniDLNA users - read me! - Always_In_The_Moode - 08-28-2023

Hi

Those of you using MiniDLNA on OpenMediaVault may wish to be aware that the latest updates will kill MiniDLNA and it will not be easy to restore it. Apparently it's to do with some repository set up issue out of their control.

However, as a user of the fine Moodeaudio, all you need to do is enable DLNA on your setup and you'll get it back again - it will use the same music shared folder as Moode already does!

I started looking at different options, the OMV Compose was a complete failure. But I eventually discovered that Moode supports it seamlessly! It took a little while for the MiniDLNA to index all the tracks, but once it was done, it nicely took over from where OMV left off.

It seems snappier too for some reason!

Anyway, I thought I should share this in case it helps someone else in a similar situation to me!

Hi,

With the help of some people on the official OpenMediaVault forum, I managed to have miniDLNA running in a Docker container without even breaking a sweat.
All you have to do is use the "Add from example" feature. Insert the path to your directorie(s) and you're good to go.

Hi,

I'm glad it worked for you. For me, I installed the OMV compose plugin to support the docker container system. Despite configuring it as per OMV documentation, it wouldn't start and kept throwing up errors. I didn't want to spend ages troubleshooting it to make it work, so I went down the Moodeaudio route instead.

But thanks for sharing that, others will hopefully have the same luck you did to get MiniDLNA back on OMV by using a docker container.

I'm with you on MoodeAudio. It's been my music player for years and I wouldn't want to switch to anything else.
The only reason I need miniDLNA is to be able play my video files (films, tv shows, etc.). I'm no expert in Docker, and I think its learning curve is way too steep, but it's been the only way so far to have a miniDLNA running on my system since it disappeared from the repo.
