Improve the sound quality of your DAC for free? - Falco - 09-11-2023

Hi,

I was watching this video on the Hans Beekhuyzen Channel on YouTube.

*** URL removed by admin ***

I tried to apply his tip in my MoOde setup, but I'm not sure where to apply. I'm using a RPi with an external DAC connected via USB. Currently I have my volume type set to Fixed (0db output) and max volume set to 90%, but not sure if that's the most optimal.

Does anyone know where to apply, or maybe it does not make sense at all in MoOde, I do not know....?

Feel free to reference by name but please don't link to this YouTube channel. I've checked out one or two videos in the past and the info seemed to me to be completely bogus.

Agreed, whilst Hans has some great testing kit his reviews are rather flowery and dare I say it - a shill.

Hi,
I watched that video too. And I can't judge if it makes any sense, Hans has strong opinions about these things Smile

You could use the Parametric EQ (see Configuration => Audio), and set the Master Gain to -x dB (and no other EQ changes) to get the desired result.
I don't know what the impact of the DSP processing will be.
I use the Parametric EQ for room correction, with a -2 Master Gain applied, but I have not tested the difference to be honest.

I too used to follow his channel, but encountered a couple of videos that made me reconsider everything; especially cables / power conditioners / audiophile-grade switches and the like... now I merely watch it from time to time if it mentions new gear, or goes to some show.

Same goes for Darko and IIWI when it comes to gear reviews... a mouthful of audiophool® blablabla most of the times, if not always.

Amir at ASR is more educated, and the whole site is far more useful for this matter (well, for everything audio related, TBH)
