How to specify USB music file source? - Agent_Smith - 11-25-2023

I have a music collection on a USB drive that I ripped from a number of CDs.  The ripped music has a collection of meta data with it, e.g. artist, composer, album name, album cover, etc.

How do I tell MoOde to find the music DB on the USB drive? I've looked but can't figure out how to do it or where it would appear in the UI

I am on a RPi4, 8 GB.

Thanks
J

You do not tell moOde where to access the music; instead, you plug the USB in, do a "Library update", then you'll see all your music categorized by artist / album etc. in either the TAG or the ALBUM views.
Alternatively, you can chose the FOLDER view, which will resemble the folder hierarchy of your USB drive.

In the Setup Guide see "4. ADD SOURCE(S) CONTAINING MUSIC FILES". Basically just plug in your USB drive and then Menu, Update library.

Some resources below. Quick help explains most of the WebUI including how to navigate it, search the Library, etc.

Thank you for all your collective help.  I am still stuck.  I realized that my music USB disk has the SCSI as USB protocol so I put the SSD into another case that windoz identified as USB/ATPI bridge and thought that would help.  Plugged it in, 'Update Library' and info window appeared for about a min then vanished.  No status was displayed so IDK if it worked, bombed, or WTF.....

Thinking that it worked, I tried to figure out how to find the Album or Tag view page....not obvious at all via the UI and the quick help was no help....it explained what the modes are but not how to access them. I explored every menu tree and tried a bunch of different stuff and no success.   Spent at least 5 hrs futzing with this, and reading all the doc and no joy.    I tried to go the music on USB route because the network access to  my server was not working (another 5 hrs with no joy).  Very little guidance on how shares should be set up on a windoz machine (or any os for that matter).  Gave up on this figuring the USB route should be 'easy'....nfw...

BTW...What is the secret to SSHing to Moode?  I use login name "pi" and password "moodeaudio" and it says 'access denied'

When you hit "Update library" a small circling icon appears top-right, and stays on untill the update process terminates (depending on the size of your library)
After that, a "Loading library" toast message appears, and then your library loads.
NOTE: do this from the TAG or ALBUM view. (read on)

Quote:Thinking that it worked, I tried to figure out how to find the Album or Tag view page....
If on top-left you can see a "Library" drop-down, click it to be able to change the view (tag / album / folder)
If you can see "search" instead, then click on the big square "moOde" image you see on the right of the two circles (time / volume), and you will.

well, if you specified "pi" and "moodeaudio" during the preparation of the image to be flashed, indeed these are the credentials... otherwise, they are obviously different.
