Topping D10s DAC auto standby? - Falco - 12-13-2023

Hi all,

Is anyone by any chance also using a Topping D10s with your Raspberry Pi MoOde streamer?

I recently got one and the sound is actually great, but I was wondering if it automatically goes to standby mode for anyone? So far the display stays on also when I haven't been playing music for quite a while...

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Is it supposed to do so? If it is, have you checked its settings on how to have it behave so?
(sorry for asking stupid questions, but you have no idea how many times I have been in such talks...)

Just to add: I have a Eversolo Z8, which I have set to go to stand-by after 5 minutes of not receiving sound; and so it does. Moreover, once I play again, it resurrects in a couple of seconds.

So to say, moOde / MPD should be compliant to device stand-by.

Thanks Al

Yes it's supposed to do so, it's mentioned in the manual, but there's no way of setting it on the dac itself. Apparently it should be automatic, but not sure if under MoOde/Linux it would need additional drivers of some sort...

What happens if you pull out the USB cable?

What happens if you pull out the USB cable?

Then it will turn off for sure as it's USB powered, no dedicated power supply.

Hmmm it seems I have to check USB autosuspend, is that something that is available in MoOde and/or bullseye RPi os?

Not that I'm aware of. Without knowing exactly what the DAC is checking for to determine whether to go into sleep mode or not it almost impossible to troubleshoot.

Maybe someone at Topping can help out?

I have the E30.  I seem to recall reading (probably on Audio Science Review) that Topping devices won't sleep as long as there's power on the USB - they don't care if there's actually music playing or not. See also: https://moodeaudio.org/forum/showthread.php?tid=5618

Thanks all for your input, I guess I have to check with Topping itself or fiddle with the underlying Linux of MoOde to tweak USB standby behavior. Below you can see what Topping itself puts in the manual. It specifically mentions a signal, but I guess they refer to usb signal in general and not audio signal as it kind of is written down there.

I've done a bit more digging, I might need to revert to uhubctl if it at all is available for RaspiOS....
Could that be something to integrate in MoOde, it seems some sort of support for USB standby is available in Picore player and Ropiee it seems
