No headphone output - PeterE - 05-20-2024

Hello,

I just updated to the latest version 9.0, when the installation was finished I can now only select HDMI as the output for audio. My pi 3 also has a headphone output which worked well with previous versions.

Thats because AFAIK the default (kernel mode) driver for integrated audio in Bookworm only supports HDMI. There may be some sort of option for it or along side it to enable the Headphone port but I couldn't find it.

There is an option in System Config named "Integrated audio" that allows the legacy firmware mode driver to be selected but this is to support a Headphone-only scenario. The HDMI ports won't work correctly with this driver.

Based on Tim's response, I think we can conclude that the 3.5mm output is no longer supported by MoOde.

There is an easy and cheap fix though: Just buy one of these usb-c to 3.5mm dac dongles. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805532877824.html They are cheap and I can vouch for the sound quality of that model. It comes with a usb-a to usb-c adapter as well.

Should be plug and play.

3.5mm output is no longer supported by moOde? How so?

I'm listening to a moOde 9.0 player on a Pi3A+ with wired earbuds as I write. Sure, I could easily have used a USB-3.5mm audio dongle instead but I didn't have to.

ISTM the more interesting question is, what is the usefulness of the "0Tonguei HDMI" choice of output device when the legacy firmware option has been selected.

I don't own any HDMI-related gear so this is just one of those "inquiring minds want to know" kind of questions.

Regards,
Kent

As @TheOldPresbyope mentioned the Headphone jack is supported by selecting the Firmware mode driver in System Config.

Thank you very much. I just downgraded to the previous version. I'll wait a bit before moving to the latest version. I'll either buy an external sound card or change the setup since I don't use HDMI basically.
