Question about Rpi psu placement and interference - Dorffen - 05-22-2024

Hi,

Do anyone have experiences regarding interference from the official raspberry pi psu when placed close to the raspberry pi?

The case: raspberry pi and psu mounted inside same alu inclosore with a maximum of only 50-100mm in between.

Regards
Rock

One of my players lives in a small plastic box that sits on top of it's own official RPi power supply, and the power supply for my modem/router, and the power supply for my TV. No interference, but it does get warm. Heat management is likely to be your main issue I'd say.

Hi Robert,

Thank you very much.

Yes, heat is a concern if i go this route, but now knowing that interference isn’t an issue, this route is an option after all. I actually wasn’t sure that the Rpi alone could run in the enclosure without ventilation. Good reason to dust off the 3D printer.

In my use of the Rpi audio setup the fragile usb c connection is a serious concern too, hence why i’m considering going this route and feeding the psu through an IEC mains chassis socket.

Kind regards
Rock

How about something like this:

If the cable gets stomped on it may still break, but it won't damage the RPi.

Good idea - it was actually my #1 sollution too.

- But your reply actually triggered some brain activity on my side.
I could easily keep a spare extension and psu in the box with the other spareparts, patch cables etc. and it’ll be a quick replacement fix on spot if anything breaks.

Thanks a lot Smile

Edit: btw the Rpi will be mounted safely inside the enclosure without anything connected direcly to the onboard connections from outside.
