Loosing Output Device in Audio Menu - Lalsacien - 07-25-2024

Hi togheter,

I'm on the latest version of Moode on a PI 3B+ and an Hifiberry card DAC2 (that works in Moode with DAC+).

Since I migrate to version 9 I notice that when I switch off my PI and I restart it few days later, I have no more music.

In the menu Configure/Audio and under Audio Output I still see my DAC under "Named I2S Device" (HIFIBerry DAC+) but under Output Device; in the list, I have only 0: Pi HDM1 and 1: Loopback. The entry HIFIBerry DAC+ disappeared.

To correct I have to change the "Named I2S Device" to something else, then reboot, and change again to HIFIBerry DAC+, reboot, and then it works again. Curious.

Has someone see the same issue ?

Many thanks for Help.

Best Regards
Lalsacien

I've not seen similar behaviour, but I also don't have the same hardware. I suggest starting with a newly burned image with minimal configuration other than the DAC selection and anything else that's essential to get sound in your system. Does the problem re-occur then?

I've had similar issues but my DAC is external RME, so a detection issue rather than specific hardware maybe?

What steps can I try to see if I can repro the issue. I have an Allo Revolution DAC.

It happens to me if I disconnect the USB of the DAC (I will use my PC to do eq settings withe the RME app) and then reconnect it. It's seems ok but after a short while of playing a tune it will stop and the RME will not be in the device list in the config page. If I scan it may appear but will fail again and be gone from the list.

For me I need to scan then shutdown the pi for it to 'stick'. I just assumed it was an issue with my setup.

Sounds more like some sort of compatibility issue between Raspberry Pi USB an/or Linux USB Audio driver and the USB interface on the device.

Hi all,

I think I found the problem, or at least worked around it.

I just changed to HIFIBerry DAC+ Pro for the "Named I2S Device" parameter and since, no more issues. Perhaps the Hifiberry card DAC2 has better compatibility with the driver HIFIBerry DAC+ Pro than with HIFIBerry DAC+.

IIRC there were some issues with hifiberry drivers in the early 6.6 kernels and Bookworm OS. Unfortunately there's not a lot of info at hifiberry website or at least I can't easily find it regarding which drivers are for which device, what ALSA options are exposed, how to manipulate them, whats up with the force eeeprom off setting, etc etc etc.

In any case, thank you for your help and answers. Wink

For what it's worth, I just downloaded and mounted the latest HiFiBerryOS image. The Hifiberry DAC overlay (*.dtbo) files appear to be identical to the ones we distribute.

Sorry, I'm not interested enough to actually install it on a Pi to see what system setup in their UI might look like.
