Question: Hardware volume and Remote controller - bikerman - 08-31-2024 Hi All, So I use my Moodeaudio setup (RP + DAC) mostly as a headphone amp and occasionally as DAC plugged into mono amps. In both scenario's i rely on the inbuilt software volume controller. Whilst this works well enough, I would like to incorporate 1: physical volume controller for when the setup is next to me on bedside table, in this instance i prefer to adjust volume using hardware volume controller 2: IR or Bluetooth remote controller, in this instance with the setup more than 6 feet away, i would prefer to use a remote control My question is does anyone know what the most compatible hardware is for both scenarios running Moodeaudo 9.x or have had any experience doing this? Thanks in advance RE: Question: Hardware volume and Remote controller - Tim Curtis - 08-31-2024 I've used this USB volume knob https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MV411BR/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 When you are farther away why don't u just use your Smartphone? The reason for wanting the remote control is mainly because of the step involved.having to unlock hone first, often times page takes a while to reload /refresh due to memory management on phone. I just feel it would be easier to just reach for a remote controller for simple things as skipping tracks or changing volume RE: Question: Hardware volume and Remote controller - Tim Curtis - 08-31-2024 For Android and iPhone you can use the "Add to Home Screen" option in Chrome or Safari to create a moOde App. No need to fuss with a Web Browser after that. RE: Question: Hardware volume and Remote controller - TheOldPresbyope - 08-31-2024 I have a Drok USB volume control knob which I used from time to time. About 30USD. I and others have experimented with wireless remote controllers. If you search (or just browse) this Forum's FAQs and Guides section you'll find a number of threads which address IR-, Bluetooth-, and USB-based remote controllers. I'm fond of my own threads, of course, but plenty of other users have good ideas too. An example of my threads: Using FLIRC and other USB input devices for remote control (I have one about the Satechi Bluetooth controller as well) and of others': Using a wireless USB Keyboard as remote control. In the end, I stopped using these devices with moOde. A wired remote means one more tethered gadget to get tangled up or just in the way. A wireless controller means one more controller to add to the stable, at best, or get misplaced or mistaken for another, at worst. Either a touchscreen local display or a custom enclosure with built-in harware controls is the way to go IMO if you don't want to use a smart phone, tablet, or computer. But that's just me. Different strokes for different folks. RE: Question: Hardware volume and Remote controller - bikerman - 08-31-2024 Actually @Tim Curtis @TheOldPresbyope Slightly off topic but a little related question; If I were to buy like an external headphone DAC Amp such as the S.M.S.L DO100 which comes supplied with remote control and has built in Volume control and just using the RP with Moodeaudio as a source, do you think the Remote control will work to change tracks? I know I'll need to set the volume to fixed 0db but was curious about changing tracks RE: Question: Hardware volume and Remote controller - TheOldPresbyope - 08-31-2024 (08-31-2024, 06:53 PM)bikerman Wrote: Actually @Tim Curtis @TheOldPresbyope Slightly off topic but a little related question; I don't think so. The SMSL DO100 is an audio-output device. There's no suggestion in what little documentation that I can find suggesting there's any back-signaling to the upstream device driving the SMSL box.
