Alternative to paypal? - PJVervoorn - 09-09-2024

Hi Tim, et al.,

I am a long time user of moode and would like to support the project.
However, after some negative experiences with paypal (pp) I refuse to use them any longer.
Is there an alternative way to support moode (i.e. bank transfer, credit card payment or a platform like buy me a coffee (that doesn’t use pp))?

Also, if you are refusing to use pp, please respond here.
I do understand it’s not feasible to set up -or research- an alternative for just 1 person...

I don't particularly like PP either but our project doesn't have the bandwidth to implement and manage another payment option.

Is there any way to donate to moOde-project without 'donating' my phone number, my address, my email address, my credit card number or any other personal information to PayPal Holdings, Inc.???
In europe (SEPA = Single Euro Payments Area) I usually use bank transfer via IBAN (International Bank Account Number) and BIC (Business Identifier Code).
SWIFT seams to be connected in some manner to BIC. Sometimes BIC is called SWIFT-BIC…

Can I support moOde without 'donating' my personal data to some data-selling company?

moOde is the only audio-player which definitely is most worth to donate to.
…and I want to support it! (Without spreading my personal data.) Angel

Thanks for the amazing work. Absolutely love moOde!

Any suggestions?

Kind regards
Michael

See post #2 but realistically your personal info has already been spread to the max by simply using a credit card. Using PayPal won't make that situation any worse.

The fact is that donations have not kept pace with the effort needed to maintain the project including hosting and domains, test equipment, Forum admin, software development, release admin, and user support. Its not an unexpected trend and is due to the dynamics of the donation model and age of the project, however as the trend continues in 2025 the negative effects on the moode project will continue to increase.

Hi Tim,

I have sent another donation, thanks for the reminder.

I know you guys are very busy, but how feasible would it be to have some kind of thermometer style fund raising target so we can all see how much more needs to be raised to cover Moode development costs for this year?

Would welcome your thoughts.

Thank you for all your hard work for such a fine product!

I think thats more of a thing for businesses that have to fully recoup their labor and other costs, for example like a listener supported radio station.

The only things I've seen happen to volunteer based projects are either a guardian angel steps in and underwrites the project or other people grab the reins and keep it going forward but IME that doesn't happen very often, especially for larger more complex projects that need multiple people.
