Difference Pi3B+ & Pi4 - Alexus - 10-13-2024
Hi,
i heard somewhere (i think Gabster channel), that there is a difference between raspi 3 and 4 and that Raspi 3B+ has a better sound quality? Who can confirm this statement? I am using Moode.audio and I have sometimes a disconnect from Apple Music to moode audio . Also I have sometimes problems to connect to the wlan network, after rebooting my ubiqitti router/console it works again, but every evening it is diconnecting one or two times. Thats why I want to buid a new moode Image and use a newer Raspi 4 or 5.
Have anybody experience with this issue?

"better sound quality"... What do you mean? Via the PI audio out, via USB to a DAC, via a DAC or S/PDIF hat, ..?

I have pure pi, FifoQ7 and the Transport AES Flagship on the hat. It goes to an external DAC.

In this case, I don't see any reason why SQ would be different on a 3 or 4? What was the reason mentioned on that other forum?

I also remember that the RPi 4 generates more EMI than the RPi 3B+, but on the other hand it also has a quieter USB bus. Pick your poison. If it were to concern me - and it does, to tweak that last 1% out of my set - I look towards some isolated outputs. An external USB isolator, optical SPDIF, AES, IanCanada isolating HATs... again, pick your poison :-)
