RPF progress with Wayland - TheOldPresbyope - 10-28-2024
Interesting item today in Raspberry Pi News. They’re going all in with Wayland and the labwc compositor. Back when Tim was porting to Bookworm, I played with their previous favorite compositor wayfire trying to reimplement moOde’s localUI without using X. My experience was only so-so. Now I have a new toy to play with.

Lots of gotchas I stumbled across in Wayland. Don't rightly remember about screen wakening.

Maybe after a round or two of bug fixes with their official release we could start experimenting with Wayland again.

Is there any chance to restore the Pixel Aspect Ratio correction with Wayland? That's something I really miss for the official 7 inch touch display. Yet I didn't find anything useful while searching the web ...
Maybe the ultimate workaround will be to buy one of the recently introduced second generation official touch displays instead. Besides a higher resoution of 1280 x 720 it finally seems to have native square pixels.

I couldn't find any way to get "square pixels" in Bookworm with the KMS driver but my 10.1 inch WINAXIT display doesn't have that issue and hopefully the new 7 inch touch will also be ok.

I couldn't find anything in labwc documentation either. I can't help but wonder if the move to Bookworm and labwc/Wayland forced their hand to come up with a 2nd generation touchscreen with a better pixel aspect ratio. Or maybe I'm just overthinking this
