Deleted folder/album still present - ICLlP - 11-01-2024
I store all my music files on a Drobo NAS in folder structure Band/Album/Track. I am seeing a deleted album in my library after rebuilding the music database and it plays. How can this be?

The deleted folder is 5N2/Music/Canterbury Tales - The Best Of caravan
The newer folder is 5N2/Music/Canterbury Tales - The Best Of Caravan
The only difference being the lower or upper case C of Caravan. The deleted folder has 9 tracks, the other has 10 tracks. 8 tracks are common to both. One track in the deleted folder, which isn’t in the other folder, cannot be found and so will not play.

File and folder names are case sensitive in Linux so I would double check your NAS for the existence of the new folder. Maybe its hidden or something like that.

I'm guessing the files are tagged the same, so you removed just the uncommon track from the deleted folder, seems to be working.

Did you remember to clear your Library Tag Cache as well as regenerate the database? (It's a choice on the Library Config screen).

If you still have a ghost in the system you might ask MPD to show you all the tracks in its database associated with the subject album(s), e.g., the ones in whose metadata the Title field contains the string 'Canterbury Tales'.
The command is
mpc find "(Album contains 'Canterbury Tales')"
So, for example, if from one of my moOde players I search my MPD database for all the tracks associated with an album I know is named something like "Beethoven Symphonie"

Thanks, but I don’t understand how to interrogate MPD and am not sure it’s worth the bother.

These things are populated by the tracks' tags, so, if you happen to have even a single track with its title tag as "The Best Of caravan" with lowercase C, then MPD will treat that as a different album.
In my specific case (I use whole-disc FLAC + CUE) the title and artist tags in the FLAC file MUST BE CONSISTENT with the same in the CUE file, otherwise I end up with a double album in the library.

I don’t know whether it’s relevant/helpful, but my kitchen Pi uses an alternative to MoOde, which I don’t like so much, and it just sees the one album folder.
