Hello! - lcipher3 - 12-11-2024 Greetings! Its been awhile - not sure if I was on this forum or another - but years ago I made a slick little rack mount player and have been using MOODE AUDIO 3.8 with great results. Now I have some time and I'm going to try installing version 9.1.5 - should be interesting to see the differences! RE: Hello! - Tim Curtis - 12-11-2024 Wow 3.8. You should post a screen shot for old times sake. RE: Hello! - lcipher3 - 12-12-2024 3.8 screenhot on PC - still a great looking interface! I have 9.1.5 working now and checking out the features. I need to upgrade my storage - any advantages of booting off USB vs SD for the image? (Raspberry Pi 3B) RE: Hello! - TheOldPresbyope - 12-12-2024 (12-12-2024, 06:30 PM)lcipher3 Wrote: 3.8 screenhot on PC - still a great looking interface! Opinions differ about booting from USB drives vs uSD cards. I've done both. Two points: 1- IIRC you first have to burn a OTP bit on the Pi 3B to be able to boot from USB (or else futz with a specially crafted uSD card). Consult your favorite Internet search engine. 2- It's tempting to get a large capacity drive and put both moOde and your music library on it. I advise against this. You will too the first time you find yourself having to flash a new moOde image to it and thereby lose the library. Regards, Kent RE: Hello! - Tim Curtis - 12-12-2024 I'd recommend a top quality, surveillance-grade uSD card as boot media for example Western Digital Purple QD101 https://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-MicroSD-Surveillance-WDD064G1P0C/dp/B088CFSPV6/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?crid=1BWXZKZTLYSUF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.0bylnesen4KTtEHrlvXBFF8FaaeDa8QDiSOuOs4ng5Ctfzkl4BG5WMSKPvGLE0g6WwfSp4wli2fQehkdcndI3MOGeeB3LHcmToQQyTN5d-57mcxkcg67CPch5wL2QBL_.c_KDDY8BzuPSeuE-uwTF3xN1iryTicd4oYEAkDNa0ow&dib_tag=se&keywords=Western%2BDigital%2BPurple%2Bmicro%2Bsd&qid=1734033469&sprefix=western%2Bdigital%2Bpurple%2Bmicro%2Bsd%2Caps%2C176&sr=8-1-fkmr0&th=1, and a separate drive for music files. - Moode is a music server and for any server its best practice to keep OS and data on separate drives - USB boot can be a lot slower than uSD boot media RE: Hello! - lcipher3 - 12-12-2024 thanks - yes I agree Its not a good idea to have a huge boot card (usb/sd ect) since any OS update is more painful: I just went from 3.8 to 9.1.5 on a smallish usb and it was rather painless. I have a separate 1TB drive for the music I have the "bit burned" for the USB but will try the Western Digital Purple QD101. I would welcome a bit faster boot esp with the PI3B Im using RE: Hello! - Tim Curtis - 12-12-2024 As long as it's a QD101 go for it. A Pi5 + official cooler and PSU could be a good self-gift for the holidays :-) RE: Hello! - TheOldPresbyope - 12-12-2024 As long as the card capacity isn’t so high that it uses some crazy formatting scheme that RaspbiOS doesn’t from you should be good. Hving a lot of free space on a uSD card can increase its longevity because it gives more room for the bitwear-levelling algorithm to do its thing. I sort of miss the "playback" and "library" tabs at the bottom even though they take up space, and that volume knob looks to my eye more modern than the current one although that's probably just my retro tendencies kicking in |
