New user/member - Gilliland - 01-03-2025 Hello, all, I just installed Moode audio for the first time, and I'm barely started with trying to make it work for me. My application is probably not typical - I want to use it as a standalone music player operating on just the machine it is installed on. So the only client will be itself. So far I'm stuck at square one - I haven't succeeded in getting the local display to work. But I will do some searches here to see if someone already has the answer for me, and if not I'll try to find the right place to post a question. To do that you need to first connect with your browser (and point it to moode.local, or whatever you have chosen as the player's name; or its IP address), then click "m" => Configure => Peripherals, and enable Local Display. Then reboot your moOde box and you're done. My application is probably not typical - I want to use it as a standalone music player operating on just the machine it is installed on. So the only client will be itself. Thank you! I'm sure it is that easy for some. Maybe my display is quirky. It is a generic 1024x600 7" display that claims to be for the Raspberry Pi and claims not to need any special driver. It looks just like a dozen other displays, front and back, that are sold on Amazon. For most of the first dozen or so times that I tried it, it mostly gave me a blank white screen, fully lit, no text or graphics whatsoever. It did the same thing this time, but after several restarts, it is suddenly giving me a full display (showing the icon view of all of the built-in radio streams). I'm hesitant to predict what will happen the next time I restart it, but this result does give me some hope. I am finding that the system responds very slowly. If I click a choice on the display, it sometimes takes a minute or more to respond. My assumption is that it is busy scanning the music on the USB drive that I have plugged in, but I don't know enough to feel confident in this assumption. I'll keep tinkering with it and see what I can learn. Thanks again for your help! Jim PS - maybe that is the explanation for my local display problems, too. If the system is that busy, it might take a while to fully render the display. If I find that I need to start again from scratch, I will do it without the USB drive until I get the system configured. It really is just excruciatingly slow. Most of the time (really, all of the time) there is a spinning circle up next to the "m" on the right, except that most of the time it isn't actually spinning, it is just stopped. Something seems to be hogging a LOT of resources - enough that even the spinning disk isn't getting serviced. Later edit: OK, clueless user error. I had defined my I2S DAC to the system, but I didn't realize that I also had to select it in the section above. So the system was trying to send audio to an HDMI device that has no audio capability. It must have been working pretty hard on that because as soon as I changed the output to the defined DAC, the system began to respond normally and actually produced music for me! Unfortunately, the local display has gone back to being a plain white rectangle. Apparently that problem is not due to slow rendering. The remote browser is working perfectly, but the local display is (for now) a failure. I'm not sure what to try to fix that. I guess the first step is just to restart the system and see if that changes anything. [Nope, it didn't.] [Also tried a different HDMI cable. No change.] Is there a better place for this topic? I can start a new thread rather than continuing here. RE: New user/member - Tim Curtis - 01-04-2025 Reboot and then post the contents of the startup log. The log can be viewed via the SSH command moodeutl -l or downloaded via the Logs section in System Config, or via Menu, System info from any of the Config screens. The startup log will be at the end of System info output.
