What does Bluetooth do on Moode? - foxwelljsly - 01-27-2025

I'd like to cast the audio from my Android smartphone to my Moode Pi using Bluetooth.

I can connect and "Raspberry Pi Bluetooth" shows as the audio device on my phone  and the Moode UI says Bluetooth is active, but no sound is audible.

Volume on the smartphone, Moode and app are all at maximum.

Bluetooth Audio Information is shown below.

Is this functionality supported?

If so, is there a knowledge article on this?

If not, ask away and I will enable logging.

cheers

That screenshot suggests that there is simply nothing playing on your phone.

What version of moode are you using?

At that precise moment, I was playing something on spotify on my phone. Same result if I am playing something on the BBC Sounds App.

If it helps, phone is a Pixel 7a.

I'm having no difficulty streaming music from my Pixel 6a to moOde 9.2.4 via Bluetooth and controlling its volume. I don't recall any difficulty with 8.3.9 either (to be expected because little has changed in this part of moOde/RPiOS for some time).

As always, the first thing to do in asking for help beyond which button should one click in the webUI is to provide moOde's startup log. May not help in this case but it sets the stage. Also, since it never pays to assume, does your moOde player work properly with local sources such as the Stereo Test track that comes with it?

Regards,
Kent

Hi Kent,

All radio stations and library - which is loaded from a NAS - work fine.

DAC is a Topping E30 and I have tried connecting the PI to the DAC via native USB and Toslink on the justboom digi card

Same result, no sound

Have same issue - no sound and 'not playing' in audio information output format  - when using an iPad and bluetooth.

RE: What does Bluetooth do on Moode? - TheOldPresbyope - 01-28-2025

@foxwelljsly

I'm off to do some errands, but I notice you have your ALSA output mode set to Direct. Try dropping back to the default (plughw). Not sure either about that " worker: Bluetooth:       started, Pairing Agent started, ALSA mode Default" either but no time to think about it ATM.

Regards,
Kent

RE: What does Bluetooth do on Moode? - foxwelljsly - 01-29-2025

Tried switchning the alsa output mode to default and restarting, no change.

FWIW, it switches to bluetooth and mutes whatever was already playing when connecting to bluetooth, but no sound.

I've also tried changing the Bluetooth ALSA output mode to compatibility and this makes no difference.
