Unable to use NAS as a music library - skr91 - 03-01-2025 Trying to use moodeaudio just as I used to with no problems a few years back, that is: - running on a raspberry 3b+, with a digi hat connected to my external dac - sourcing the music files from an external HD, connected via usb to my home router the router is a fritzbox 3490 and by searching the forum I have seen that others had issues. I've also seen that one of the moderators explained how he iisn't familiar with the fritzbox However, back in 2019 or so I happily and easily used the then current moodeaudio version with the same setup and never had problems. Too bad I don't have the microSD card where it was... Long story short, the drive attached to my fritz is called "sea2tb" (it's a 2tb seagate) and it is mounted in a 3.5" enclosure, whose firmware identifies it as "ASMT-2105-01". The share is via SMB. The router being oldie, it is vers=1.0 From any PC or android device I can access it easily. The same goes for Volumio, which however I would rather not use. So I would say there are no issues with the HD, nor with the fritz's NAS function With moodeaudio, I have tried countless times and I have also tried to use different ways to identify the HD, i.e. I have set moode to look for the drive itself (name: sea2tb), or the enclosure which houses it (name: ASMT-2105-01) I should add that the main music folder is called "p2p" and that I use the same name as alias for the library I never succeded, and would like to post the error logs I got: Quote:Moode Log The userid XYZ and the password ABCABCABC are not the ones I actually use As you can see, when I only identify the HD as sea2tb I get the error "Server abruptly closed the connection" Instead, where I use the enclosure's name ASTM I get "bad usage" The only conclusion I'm able to reach is that the second error is somewhat worse, in that moode fails to see the drive (understandably, I would think). The first error log makes me thing that yes, moode manages to find the drive but there is a problem with the communication. I.E., the problem is arguably related to the SMB share. To this regard, I should add that by default moode shows these parameters in the relevant section Quote:ro,noserverino,cache=none,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777 To these, I have added in some cases the SMB version, so that it reads Quote:Quote:ro,noserverino,cache=none,dir_mode=0777,file_mode=0777,vers=1.0 Neither setting works. If I try and update the NAS libary from the main page, the update popup window appears for a few seconds, the "busy" icon in the top right corner spins for a few seconds, and nothing else happens. My library remains empty. If that's relevant, the library is very large: the 2TB drive is almost full and there must be about 3000 folders (each being one album) According to the online tutorials I've found I'm not doing anything wrong, yet evidently this is not the case. The same settings work with Volumio, but as I said I would rather not use it. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong or whether my NAS is not compatible with the current version of Moodeaudio? Incidentally, I have found and tried to use the latest version of Moodeaudio 8, but it was still impossible to load the library Could it be that I have to downgrade to the version of 2019-2020 (possibly version 6?), provided that it's still available somewhere? Any help is appreciated RE: Unable to use NAS as a music library - Tim Curtis - 03-02-2025 Prolly the old Samba security on your Router is not working well with modern moOde which uses latest PiOS and kernel. RE: Unable to use NAS as a music library - DRONE7 - 03-02-2025 (Fritzbox! owner here) As Tim said it is the samba version that is your problem. Quote:The share is via SMB. The router being oldie, it is vers=1.0 Your previous install worked back then as Samba worked with version 1.0 but RPi (and every other OS) have moved on and no longer support vers=1.0. for security reasons. What model Fritzbox! ? and have you checked for an update for it ? Fritzbox! are very good keeping software for their devices updated. If your Fritzbox! is just too too old then maybe consider building a NAS using another RPi and installing OMV or just connect your USB drive directly to the MoOde Pi. RE: Unable to use NAS as a music library - skr91 - 03-02-2025 (03-02-2025, 01:44 AM)DRONE7 Wrote: (Fritzbox! owner here) thanks, my fritz is the 3490 and updated to the latest OS available for that model, which is 7.31 (released in 2023). the reason I want to stream from the NAS is I have 2 RPIs in different rooms, and they both source the music files from the same HD the latest Volumio release can load the library, but I don't particularly like Volumio and prefer moode anyway not familiar with OMV, is it another player comparable to moode or volumio? I'm looking for a headless player RE: Unable to use NAS as a music library - skr91 - 03-02-2025 I have checked and my fritzbox indeed supports newer SMB versions In fact, version 1 is disabled by default and can only be used activating a specific option the fact is, that option was not activated on my device, which explains all the failed attempts where I added vers=1.0 however, I'm sure I tried many times without adding any option within moode (I do not have the logs, though) and I still was unable to load the library should I add an option like vers=3.0 or just avoid it and eave the defailt parameters? would it help if I tried again and post the log? here RE: Unable to use NAS as a music library - DRONE7 - 03-02-2025 Try with vers=2.01 or above and post logs Hang about...the default MoOde has the correct settings for Fritzbox! Clear (delete) your current NAS setting=address and config and restart then configure a new NAS . (you will find the MoOde settings - especially the 'noserverino' will be fine.) RE: Unable to use NAS as a music library - skr91 - 03-02-2025 so I have tried again and it seems to be working. I'm not saying it loud as it's been scanning the HD for some hours and I can only see a handful of folders. still, the busy wheel is still spinning so I guess I'll have to wait until it's done to know if it has read the library correctly First off, thanks a lot for your help Second, once it's here's what's happened/happening for others to know if need be: it was indeed a SMB instructions issue. I just did not enter any version it's also a matter of finding the right syntax for the path, however. after the IP address of the router I had to enter "FritzMaster", which is how the media server is identified. I had read from other threads I read that I shold enter Fritz.nas or Fritz.box, but in my case it was FritzMaster What confused me is that in one previous (insuccessful) attempt, I followed the format IPaddress/Hdrive/folder and for a moment moode did show me the folder under the Nas menu. Except that it disappeared almost immediately. Seeing the folder I assumed the format was the right one, but after many attempts I just took to trying other formats. I really wouldn't think the media server would be the one to go, but it was. I'll confirm whether the library is properly scanned and the rest works Thanks a lot for now RE: Unable to use NAS as a music library - TheOldPresbyope - 03-02-2025 @skr91 An easy command to list the shares being published by your Fritzbox or any other Samba server on your LAN Code: smbclient -N -L <server identifiier> where <server identifier> is replaced by the server's IP address (something like 192.168.0.1, or such), mDNS hostname (something like fritz.local), or (usually its DNS hostname. Example, here's a look at an OpenMediaVault server on my LAN which has SMB file sharing enabled Code: rho@bluemoode:~ $ smbclient -N -L omv1.local Regards, Kent RE: Unable to use NAS as a music library - skr91 - 03-02-2025 Kent, that's very kind but I don't know where to run that command from However , if that's what it's about the nas and the music folder on it are now visible from moode What is not working is the scan: I launch the folder update and only very few folders come up - 3 to be precise, 2 of which have a 3 or 4 subfolders as in my library each artist is a folder and each album by that artist is a subfolder. overall, my library contains over 1000 artist folders and about 3500 album subfolders the update via ethernet earlier on had given me a few more folders, in case that's relevant the busy wheel keeps spinning even when moode really has stopped scanning (I take that from the fact that if I update the folder, the update will start as opposed to getting the "update already in progress" popup) |
