would this set-up work? - chilli-omg - 03-10-2025

Hi,

I'm here because I can no longer get BBC or European radio stations on my AudioLab 6000 Play (which is a single unit combining their Amp and their network streamer).

I already have a raspberry pi 5 with an NVME hat on it, that I can use for Moode, and then I plan to connect it to my AudioLab 6000.  I'm not an audio expert by any means though.

So to give you some background - I just want to be able to stream internet radio, I don't have any FLAC files on my network, or anything like that that I want to use.

Before I go out and buy everything, I just wanted to check with you guys, if what I'm looking to buy are the right things.

I'm looking to buy this hat: https://www.hifiberry.com/shop/boards/digi2-pro/
My understanding is that by connecting my AudioLab via this hat, I'll still be using the onboard/internal AudioLab DAC - is this correct please?  Is this the right hat to use, and is it a good one?

I plan to house it all in this case: https://kksb-cases.com/products/kksb-raspberry-pi-5-case-with-space-for-hats-addon-boards-and-cooler
So this will house my RaPi5, my nvme HAT, and the above Audio HAT.

I'll have a look in the forums to see how I can install moode directly to my nvme drive, rather than using a micro-sd card.

Does the above make sense, please? Have I forgotten anything, other than a cable to connect my Pi to my AudioLab 6000?

Thank you! Smile

@chilli-omg

I could find documentation online only for the audiolab 6000N Player, e.g., with an "N". Is this the same as yours?

All I see on this player are digital and analog audio outputs, no wired or optical audio inputs. It looks like it gets all its inputs via WiFi or Ethernet. I may be missing something here, but your plan doesn't appear workable.

As an aside, an RPi 5B with NVMe hat seems like total overkill for a pure Internet radio player. Even a lowly RPi Zero 2W would work (moOde works on them both, of course).

Sorry.

Regards,
Kent

Looks like this one. Has inputs so a hat would work.

Analogue Inputs 3 x AUX , 1x Phono (MM), 1x Power In
Digital Input 2 x Coaxial, 2 x Toslink Optical, Bluetooth (aptX/aptX LL)

WiFi won't work in a metal case.

Ah, sorry. I missed the OP’s parenthetical description.

Party on!
