Solved: Airplay (both 1 and 2) dynamic range HEAVILY compressed
#1
I recently upgraded to moode 8, and I noticed that for all output through airplay, I can hear extra dynamic range compression being applied. The vocals duck when the bass comes in, and I can hear a lot of pumping. This does not happen when I use MPD or the Spotify renderer. The problem is significantly more pronounced when I output lossless through Apple Music, but it's also present when I use Spotify or YouTube over Airplay.

Does anyone know what could be causing this, and how I can fix it?

It's almost impossible to troubleshoot something like this unless you can provide a list of steps including the client app and music source you are using so that someone could try and reproduce what you are hearing.

Also reboot and then post the moOde startup log. It can be downloaded from the Logs section of System Config, printed via the moodeutl -l command or copied from the end of the System info report.
Enjoy the Music!

Hi! Thank you for the prompt response – I figured out the problem! I had a system-wide EQ (SoundSource) running, whose boost feature was accidentally enabled for all outputs! That's where the issue was coming from, but I stupidly didn't check for sources hidden in my menu bar  Rolleyes

Problem solved!
