Do you have the Spotify renderer enabled?

yes enabled

disabled, reboot, did not work

everything hangs, the dac LED is on, I'm doing a clean install

It looks like the Spotify renderer breaks the 8.1 image.  On my systems it needed a rebuild I'm afraid.  If you have a moOde back up file, you can still use that to put most of the settings back on an 8.1 image.

Open the backup zip file and edit the "moodecfg.ini" file.  In the [Renderers] section, edit the Spotify line thus:

spotifysvc = "0"

So that is set it to zero rather than 1.
Save that ini file back into the backup zip and then you can use a fresh image, restore from the backup and everything bar your Spotify renderer will be as it was.  Don't turn Spotify back on through the UI though or it will break again.

Yes there is a bug in the startSpotify function causing worker to crash. I'll plan to fix today and push 8.1.1 update and images.

To turn it off run the command below and then reboot.
