Im conflicted. Why does mpd's software volume control trigger the issue? Yes, maybe the digi+ outputs a stutter in the spdif bitstream clock that makes some DACs glitch. But only if mpd is using software volume? who's bug is it? This kind of issue relegates rPi audio to remain in the realm of hackers and tinkerers if its not addressed. No respectable consumer or professional device would allow any illegal output, let alone a platform hailed by audiophiles with $$$$ amps and speakers connected downstream.
