Because I have a lot of old free keyboards and I have no numberpad.   (And the keyboard printed board is the same size as the numberpad printed board are the same size)

Numberpads turn up at thrift shops here, barely used, at around US$1.50 .
While I accept that is not free it is a very cheap instant solve. Plug it in, configure and go.

Were it me contemplating dismantling and re-purposing keyboards then I would rather put my  time to some other endeavor....like listening to music !! :-)

I wish you all the best in your construction and let's see a picture when you finish it.
