If I'm reading this thread correctly, it seems to me that the cover view shows the cover art (and optionally the playback position) of the currently playing track, but only if the track is not actually playing?
?
what is that... it doesn't. If nothing is playing it just shows "Not playing". If you play, but pause the track, it shoes "Not playing" under the bitdepth/samplerate of the track itself; in place of the converted stream for the output device; such as:
24bit 192kHz
32bit 192kHz
vs
24bit 192kHz
Not playing

Hello,
Thank you all for your answers.
However, I'm pretty sure that in previous versions of Moode, the CoverView behavior was to display after the timeout set...
Even, during playback!
I liked it, I used a laptop at the time, now I got an Android tablet. But, even with my old laptop it is not working.
Could it be also the versions of browsers at the time...
I skipped a few versions of Moode Audio, so I can't remember which version had this behavior.
Thanks in any case, and if it were possible in a future version to have (again) the option of choosing to display CoverView during playback, that would be great.
By the way, thanks for all your hard work Tim!
Bonnes fêtes de fin d'année !
Bien musicalement.

Hello, Happy new year to all !
So, I tried on a moode version 7, and the Coverview is working as I said, even during playback.
In order, to make it work in 8 version, I did a cron entry every minute, that is executing php coverview with on option.
* * * * * /var/www/util/coverview.php -on
But, it is sometimes annoying when you are browsing your library...
Can you please, (when you will have the time), see the problem, and make the behavior like before (7 version)
Thanks a lot in advance.
Best regards.

I don't quite understand your issue.
List the exact steps to reproduce it and I'll test on my end.

Sorry, if my problem is not clear explained.
The issue is that Coverview is not displaying/shown on screen, via a browser during playback.
Steps version 8 (8.3.6) :
Configure Coverview in preferences to be active after 1 minute (Automatic display : yes, tumed display : 1 minute, backdrop style : gradient (linear), display mode : cover art, layout : default, playebar : yes, extra metadat :no)
Browse my library, add an album to play
Start playing
And let the display/web browser page open (smartphone, PC or tablet)
After 1 minute and more, nothing happens
Hit pause
After 1 minute coverview is active
In version 7 (7.6.1 2021-12-17), the coverview was working well, even during audio playback with no "crontab trick".
Hope it's more clear for you.
Thank you.

From the current description in the preferences:
1. Timed display: on all connected clients the cover view is shown after the specified time, when MPD is not playing and no renderers are active.
2. Automatic display: shows the cover view on the locally attached display; connected clients are not affected.
You probably want either (1) to activated during playback (note, this was done probably to activate the click display when the player is inactive), or (2) to affect all connected clients...
@ Tim Curtis I would probably go for Automatic display => No / Yes / All, with All affecting also the connected clients, what do you think?

I tried both with yes and no for Automatic display option, same thing. As it only affect local attached display and not "remote" clients.
Yes, I want (As on 7 version) coverview to be to activated during playback.
Thanks Nutul.

IIRC a few years ago based on user requests the behavior of CoverView was changed so it won't activate via the timeout when MPD is playing or a renderer is active. The (i) help is below.
Code: Show CoverView on all connected clients after the specified number of minutes when MPD is not playing and no renderers are active. Note that CoverView will not be shown in mobile portrait.
Whats the usage scenario where having it activate when the timeout expires even while MPD is playing is useful?

Thanks Nutul.
I cannot remember how it was on 7.x as I never used the feature, but somehow I trust you.
See what we can come up with.

Seems it nonsensical to have it any other way for me. The Coverview shows a nice image of the currently playing track cover art. Why would you only want that to show in the situations where the track isn't actually playing? In what way is it useful to show the cover of the thing that isn't playing? There's even an option to include the playbar: only when nothing is playing?
Now obviously, there are the other coverview modes like the clock, those I can understand might be only desirable when nothing is playing.
Seems we have one function doing two things, current behaviour is a kind of "screensaver" for showing something pretty when nothing else is going on, where as there's also a need (and historically provision) for a playback information display that cuts in over the control interface when no controls are being manipulated. It perhaps needs a "mode" setting to choose if you want a screensaver or a coverview behaviour?
I don't use coverview, but I have plans for a local display at some point in the future, and on that hypotheticals system I'd be wanting to see the coverview while the system was playing I think. Weigh my opinion accordingly (i.e. not much 'cos I'm not an active user of the feature).
