Problem: No sound from HifiBerry Digi+

What does it show as the 'default' card ?
And try
aplay -l
post the output.

Alsamixer shows snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi as the card at the top. There are no choices to change it, nor any volume/mixer options but that's expected.

I posted the aplay -l above already, but here it is again:

Code:
pi@HifiBerry:~ $ aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: sndrpihifiberry [snd_rpi_hifiberry_digi], device 0: HifiBerry Digi HiFi wm8804-spdif-0 [HifiBerry Digi HiFi wm8804-spdif-0]
 Subdevices: 1/1
 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Well, everything points to the card recognised correctly and should be working.
There are no errors and all the outputs match to mine for a working one.
Moode is playing as you can get audio from the H/P socket ? so maybe there is a downstream problem or a faulty card ?.

What device are you connecting to ? optical or coax ? Has that device worked with other digital devices ? Have you used the HiFiBerry hat in any previous iteration and it has produced an output. ?

The card and setup works, I get a clear sine wave in both channels from speaker-test. It's plugged in via coax to an audio interface (Focusrite 18i20), and through speaker-test works just fine. The setup works completely otherwise, I get audio from all the other sources. If I switch devices in moOde to the headphone jack, I can get audio from the moOde streams. It just doesn't want to output to the Hifiberry for whatever reason.

So the speaker test outputs... just for interest go to the MPD config in the audio tab and enable sox resampling and set the parameters to the same as the speaker test file.  16 bit 48 kHz

Holy, that did it! Thank you.

Now if only that also worked for the Spotify Connect renderer...

Have you turned up the volume on the Spotify controller device?

Yes. I've increased the volume on the Spotify device controlling the stream. There's just no output, not even quiet output according to the levels monitor of the audio interface. Same as before I set the SOX settings for MPD as above. But it doesn't look like there's that much control of the Spotify renderer in the options, unfortunately.

It appears that there is some setting in the Focusrite spdif that is proscribing bitrate or samplerate instead of being adaptive. Have a look at the settings and especially the 'Mode' as the manual is a bit confusing on those. You may have to experiment.

What is set in MoOde for Alsa Options Output mode. Direct (hw) or Default (Plughw) ?

Default (Plughw) is my setting.

Thank you for this. You hit the nail on the head: the sample rate on the Focusrite is fixed and was set to 48khz. When I set it to 44.1khz, everything just suddenly works.

Is there a way to change the sample rate for the Spotify Connect renderer? Ideally, I'd rather keep things at 48khz.
