Solved: DSD not working with MPD 0.21
#1
DSD is not working at all for me using MPD 0.21 and Khadas Tone Board.

I tried to rebuild version 6.3 (which I believe still included MPD 0.20)  using mosbuild-r214prod, but it did not work...
Putting the script r214 and properties files in a dedicated mosbuild folder, the script was failing, since part1 and part2 folder get downloaded in /home/pi, ignoring the mosbuilddir poaram set in mosbuild.properties.
Moving the script mosbuild in /home/pi, I ended up with a version 6.4.2....
Is there any way to recompile only mpd to 0.20 or downloading an entire 6.3 image?
Thanks

I understand I was launching mosbuild the wrong way...
My second attempt to build 6.3.0 went like this:

1) Launching mosbuild.sh from /home/pi and answering all questions
2) not executing immediately the reboot
3) substituting the 2 files
mosbuild_worker.sh
mosbuild.properties
in folder /home/pi/mosbuild with the ones for 6.3.0 (mosbuild-r214prod)
4) rebooting

However "step 2" does not seem to start correctly.
As far as I can see, after I do step 4 above, the raspberry does not boot at all.

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help!!!

What does "is not working at all" mean?

I'm listening to a DSD64 track via my Khadas Tone Control board as I write this. Setup: moOde 6.4.2, MPD 0.21.16, default audio settings, RPi4B.

As for creating an earlier version of MPD, if you have enough chops to be compiling from sources, you can read through STEP 6 of the build_recipe (in the 'other' directory in the git_hub repo) to see what needs to be done. Note that earlier versions of MPD may be built differently, but you can look back through the build_recipe commits to find the earlier procedure.

Kent

Not working at all means in my case that there is a continuous hiss for all DSD tracks I tested, which are a group of DSD64 and DSD128 downloaded from 2L HiRes test bench
http://www.2l.no/hires/index.html

In MPD configuration:
  • I tried software volume control/hardware volume control/volume control disabled.
  • I tried with or without DOP enabled.
Is there any other settings I should pay attention to?

I was testing with 6.4.0, but in any case, your words are reassuring.
I will start fresh, re-flashing a new SD card from the latest 6.4.2 and report back.

Thanks for your help!

DSD works fine for me with my Topping D50s which has dual ES9038Q2M DACs and possibly the same XMOS.
How come you're compiling mpd instead of using the bundled version?

As I said in my previous post, I'm going to start fresh with a newly burned SD card with Moode 6.4.2, testing with MPD 0.21.16 and I will report back.

Hi everybody.
I'm here to say I'm sorry for the false alarm I rasied due to some mistake on my testing process.
I started fresh, with a new burned SD card with Moode 6.4.2, using MPD 0.21.16, DSD Over PCM=Yes,  Dac KHadas Tone Board, Raspberry pi4.

All the four test tracks (one DSD256 and three DSD128)  from 2L played perfectly: stunning listening without a glitch!
