Try clearing the Library tag cache. It's an option in the Library Config screen.
You can also run mpc stats command to see how many Artists/Albums/Songs MPD indexed.
As far as 3rd party MPD clients go our project only support moOde's built-in WebUI.
Clearing the tag cache just cleared the ~one page of albums, and now there is only the test track. The web UI reports ‘Done: 6443 albums processed’, whereas mpc stats reports:

mpc stats represents the results of the MPD database scan. The "Done..." message on Library Config screen represents the number of album directories scanned by the thumbnail generator.
The mpc stats result suggests that MPD is not able to successfully scan your files, possibly due to permission issues.
Check the MPD log for errors, and also check the Moode log to make sure MPD hasn't crashed and is being restarted by watchdog.

Both look fine and error free. I’m doing a re-scan of the library now to follow along in the logs. After that I’ll try the 32-bit kernel.

It took ages for the 32-bit to finish indexing, but it successfully finished, and all the tracks are indexed and shown in the UI. So some odd problem in the 64-bit world…
At widths less than 479px (portrait orientation) the 'index-albums/alphabits' A-Z index which is normally to the right of the screen appears to switch position to directly overlap the index-artists/alphabits' A-Z index in the centre of the screen.
Slightly different look depending on whether 'Show-genres' = yes or no:
When = 'yes' the two lists are slightly different so they appear as a 'jumble' of letters (as per attached).
When = 'no' the two lists are identical in appearance so the 'index-artists' list appears to be completely hidden beneath the 'index-artists' list.

I have done both an in place update and fresh install without any sound or functionality issues apart from Auto shuffle not adding tracks once the last song in a playlist has finished. Auto shuffle is on and the random icon was selected. Interesting play random album feature works great.
I have not tested this feature for more than a year as I was never able to figure out the problem. The music source is a NAS Samba type and the library has 2,174 albums could that be a factor?
