Instruction Guide Philips Hue dimmer switch as a remote control for MoOde
#1
Here is a small "how-to" to use a Philips Hue dimmer switch (with 4 buttons) as a remote control for MoOde.
This requires you to have a Hue bridge, as far as I know. I probably also enabled interoperability between Hue and Apple Home somewhere is the past.
Some of this is from my memory, and using a system configured in Dutch, so there can be small mistakes Smile

I started with a new Hue switch (Hue dimmer switch).
With the Hue app, I created a new room named “MoOde” (and type music room, but that is not important).
Then I used the Hue app to add the dimmer switch as a new accessory to the Hue Bridge. Because Hue insists that you add the new dimmer switch to a room with lights, you do not get far. But at the bottom of the screen there is an option to configure it in Apple Home, select that.

(The steps below are for the Apple Home app on a Mac, but I expect the steps to be similar on an iPad or iPhone.)

Open Apple Home and assign the new dimmer switch to the MoOde room, unfortunately I do not remember how I did this exactly.
Then click on the MoOde room, and click on the dimmer switch accessory.
A dialog popup will show, and Apple Home will say none of the buttons is configured. So let's do that:

  1. Click on the button that you want to configure, e.g. button 2 for volume Up.
  2. At the bottom of the dialog there is an option to convert to a shortcut, click that.
  3. At the right part, below Categories, select Web.
  4. Select “URL” from the URLs group at the right.
  5. Enter the URL for Volume Up, in my case: http://moode.local/command/?cmd=vol.sh -up 5
  6. (check the setup guide for the available commands)
  7. Select “Get Headers of URL” from the Web Requests at the right.
  8. Click Next at the top of the dialog.
  9. Click Ready at the top of the dialog.
Configure the other buttons as you like.

Remarks:
  • I found that “cmd=toggle” (Toggles Play/Pause, plays if stopped) does not work, but “cmd=pause” toggles too, so that is fine.
  • I use http://moode.local/ as URL, but the setup guide uses http://moode/, just try what works for you.
Have fun, Willem
