Problem: Volume goes to Zero on change

# Remove volume sync

I have not applied the hack, and the main moOde web interface volume knob DOES seem to be sync'd to changes made using the Kazoo UPNP Control app ?

Please ignore that. I just tested it again and it does not seem to be the case.. apologies.

Hello,

I made a fresh install of moOde 8.0.2 on a new SD card and could reproduce the problem with my Allo Boss2 DAC setup just by using the virtual volume knob in the moOde's web interface: when you change the volume up or down sometimes it gets muted. With alsamixer I noticed that both Master and Digital were sync'd, I don't know if it is related to this specific problem.

I don't have the problem with my Allo MiniBoss DAC setup.

Thanks,
Romain

Hello,
i am still using the rp4 with the AlloBoss2 Hat DAC and the actual 8.2.4.
I still have the problem when i am using the virtual volume knob in the browser (chrome or firefox).
When i rotate the knob there are positions were the volume drops to 0db or drops one channel.

Is there still no solution until now ?

Thank you very much.

I saw this once or twice but the audio device was an Audiophonics 9038 DAC. That suggests the mute issue is not specific to a particular hardware device.

Boss 2 Digital volume is used when playing DoP. Unfortunately the Boss 2 I2S driver does not auto-sync it to Master volume and so in moOde worker daemon its sync'd in the 3 sec job loop. This shouldn't have any bearing on the mute issue. I also noticed that I could make the sync code a bit more efficient :-)

I ran some quick tests on my Boss 2 and am not seeing the mute issue. In your case when it occurs leave the system as-is and do the following:

1. Check alsamixer to see if ALSA volume for Master is zero
2. Check the output of amixer -c0
Master volume front left/right should be [on]

I ran some quick tests on my Boss 2 and am not able to repro "drops one channel".

For the volume issue do you mean volume goes to 100% (0dB) or do you mean volume goes to 0 or is muted?

Reboot and then post the startup log.

Code:
moodeutl -l

Then when the issue occurs again leave the system as-is and do troubleshooting steps 1 & 2 from post #33

Interesting. ALSA volume is in fact zero.

Post the startup log and I'll have a look.

I don't see anything suspicious in the startup log and a brief look through the code doesn't show anything that could directly cause the volume to be set to zero even though the knob slider and level are greater than zero.

If I get the chance I'll put some debug logging in a few spots in the code and if the issue occurs on my end I might be able to get some insight into what might be going on, otherwise maybe another dev that experiences the issue can poke around the code.
Enjoy the Music!
