Problem: DAC gets frozen: moOde 9 on raspi4B => USB => SPL DAC
#1
Dear all,

I'm fresh moOde user but maybe my problem is not related to moOde but more to linux and my DAC, lets see...
I have the latest moOde installed on a raspi 4 B (4GB). The goal is to feed my SPL Director MK2 DAC via USB streaming from a local NAS or Qobuz.

The moOde installation went fine. My Problem appears when I stop (or pause) a track. Then the DAC gets "frozen". Means the last signal (or bits) is playing constantly (not so nice noise from the speakers). Resuming the track everything is fine again until the next stop. Even if I power down the raspi the DAC is playing the "noise". Presumably the DAC doesn't recognize the "end of the stream". A quick cross check with a windows laptop (but the SPL drivers) could not reconstruct the problem, everything was fine. (Of course windows is not an option for me).
Unfortunately, the manufacturer of the DAC doesn't give any infos about linux compatibility (only win via extra ASIO drivers and mac is usb class compliant).

Has anyone also seen this kind of problem and has maybe an idea in which direction I should look?

Many Thanks!

all the best
Daniel

For your particular audio device, the symptom "when I stop... last signal (or bits) is playing constantly" suggests a compatibility issue with Linux USB Audio driver.

Most USB audio devices work fine with RaspiOS/Linux but for those that do not there is the Linux kernel USB quirks file. This contains special settings for audio devices to enable them to work with the USB Audio driver. Generally the device manufacturer will work with the Pi kernel devs to work out whats needed in the quirks file for their audio device. https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/blo...ks-table.h

Hi Tim,

many thanks. I'll contact the manufacturer and give a feedback here.

Hi all,

I got a feedback from the manufacturer, unfortunately SLP Audio doesn't support linux (here the usb interface) explicitly. Too bad!

IMHO the problem is in the DAC itself, that is: its Windows driver takes care of silencing it upon PAUSE or STOP commands (which is not a standard requirement, and the Linux - generic - driver doesn't do it... See, there is no "Linux is not supported" when it comes to standard UAC2...
