I recently came upon a Marantz NA7004, which seems to have a decent to very good DAC, and the software is hopelessly antiquated. I started with a Chromecast audio and a Toslink cable, which worked pretty well and Spotify never sounded so good on my system. I also stream Airplay on occasion and while I was able to shoehorn a workable solution, the setup felt pretty clunky.

Well, here I am after coming upon moOde audio after an afternoon poking around the web. I had a Pi 4B with a 7" touchscreen from a 3D printer project sitting around and setting this affair up took less than an hour. I'm driving the Marantz via USB and I'm able to stream Spotify and AirPlay to moOde via Ethernet. Brilliant – thank you for the great work.

Now I have to get the touchscreen to work.

Welcome to moOde and the forum.

That Marantz box is a handsome piece of gear you've got. Glad you're putting it and moOde to good use.

Kent

For me, this is the biggest win for moOde (or any other FOSS streamer) over a "box" solution. Even spending a lot of money on a box streamer doesn't guarantee that the manufacturer won't get bored of the OS and abandon it.

100% agree. I was on the verge of purchasing a newer DAC and was put off by the proprietary software, most of which are controlled by a phone app. ack.

thanks. I'm amazed how well the Marantz works with an rpi as a bridge. I was on the verge of spending way too much money on a more modern DAC.
