…especially if you’ve installed previous moOde releases without any problem.

Thanks to a change made by the Raspberry Pi Foundation (for good and sufficient reasons, by the way), you must create the default user account with a username/password before the first boot of a fresh moOde 8.3.2 install.. See the guide.

Some of the back story.

With the release of RaspiOS Bullseye back in April 2022  Raspberry Pi Ltd increased the security of their release images by having SSH disabled and no default userid and password. https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/raspber...pril-2022/

It took our project a while to catch up but when I was discussing having moOde added to the official Raspberry Pi Imager one of the devs recommended a similar security configuration and this was implemented starting with moOde 8.3.0.

Code:
Security (new image only)

- UPD: The ISO image does not contain the userid pi, SSH service, WiFi SSID or
Access Point password. Refer to the moOde Setup guide for details on
      how to set these up.

Since moOde operates as a headless server there is no first boot Setup Wizard like on a desktop OS. Instead the moOde release image must be prepped before first boot to enable SSH, a logon userid/password and optionally a WiFi SSID and password. As described in the Setup Guide https://github.com/moode-player/moode/bl.../setup.txt this is done using the Raspberry Pi Imager utility which is available for Windows, Linux and Mac.

Being able to setup a WiFi SSID and password is a real convenience with the Pi Imager and it avoids the whole boot into AP mode hassle just to configure WiFi :-)

Just as a friendly reminder it's very important with FOSS DIY projects like moOde to read the release announcements and notes including the preview "upcoming" release threads and ask questions if there is any confusion :-)
Enjoy the Music!
